During a recent edition of the Keepin’ It 100 podcast, AAA booker and broadcaster Konnan shared his thoughts on how WWE should’ve pulled the trigger on talents such as LA Knight and Drew McIntyre a long time ago. Of course, this podcast was recorded a few days before McIntyre won the WWE Championship from Cody Rhodes last week on Friday Night SmackDown.
Konnan stated on LA Knight (via WrestlingInc.com), “I think they’ve done the same thing — they haven’t brought him down to his level — but like LA Knight, they should have pulled the trigger on this guy a long time ago.” He added on McIntyre, “Drew McIntyre, they should have pulled the trigger on him a long time ago, but they haven’t.”
Drew McIntyre was successful in his quest to finally regain the WWE Title on last week’s WWE SmackDown, beating Cody Rhodes in a Three Stages of Hell Match. During the third and final fall inside a steel cage, Jacob Fatu interfered, attacking McIntyre. However, Cody Rhodes intervened.
Thanks to the distraction, McIntyre was able to escape the cage and become the new champion. He then celebrated his WWE Title by returning to his native Scotland for a WWE Road to Royal Rumble event over the weekend, where he defended his title against Shinsuke Nakamura.
McIntyre was written off WWE TV after an attack by The Vision on the December 8 edition of WWE Raw, with WWE later announcing that Knight was out of action “indefinitely.” Although there were reports of Knight being backstage at yesterday’s Monday Night Raw in Düsseldorf, Germany, the Megastar didn’t appear during the show.
