UPDATE: Dave Meltzer also noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the destruction of John Cena is part a larger plan to build Brock Lesnar up a monster in WWE. They wanted to make him a strong as possibly could, and keep him undefeated until someone is able ‘slay’ the beast.
It was noted that the first Lesnar loss after his return could likely go to names like Jacob Fatu or Bron Breakker. Cody Rhodes was also mentioned as possibility if Lesnar challenges for the WWE title. Rhodes already holds two victories over Brock from 2023.
Original: At WWE Wrestlepalooza, Brock Lesnar destroyed John Cena, kicking out of three AAs and hitting around seven F5s to win their match. It was reported earlier this week that the original plan was for Cena to win the match, but it was changed at some point. Later reports said that it was Cena’s call to put over Lesnar.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the plan was always for Lesnar to win the match. Lesnar was not brought back to WWE in order to lose his first match back. While the idea may have been pitched, it was never going to happen that way. While Cena was fine with losing and wanted to do so, he did not change the match’s finish. The plan was always to bring Lesnar back, give him a big win over a star to set him up for the future. Cena isn’t staying and didn’t need the win.
