Layla Says Vince McMahon Didn’t Realize She Was From England

Layla may be one of WWE’s most famous English-born divas, but she says that was news to Vince McMahon during her run. The LayCool member recently recalled a story during her appearance on Insight With Chris Van Vliet about how McMahon was confused about her place of origin and thought she was from Miami.

Layla had been in WWE for a little while before the company went to England, including her winning run in the 2006 Diva search. She recalled how wither her accent being a little muted during promos, McMahon didn’t book her for a show in England because he didn’t think she was from there. You can see the highlights below:

On Her Accent Not Being Prominent In Promos:

“So funny story about this, my first time ever being in England, standing by the ring, and then Michael Hayes comes out, and he’s like, ‘Hey, Vince didn’t even know you were from England’ I go, ‘What?’ He goes, ‘Yeah. I just told Vince that you’re from England, you should probably be in the segment. He goes, ‘No, she’s from Miami.’

“So the whole time I didn’t know that I’ve been there, been there probably a year or something. And even Vince didn’t even know I was from England. Because that’s what I was pushed. I was pushed from Miami and stuff like that, and he probably thought it was a Latin accent, or who knows, right? He didn’t know. That’s why I was never billed from England.”

On Her Shortest Match From Curtain To Curtain:

“90 seconds.”

On Her Longest Match:

“10 minutes.”
