Liv Morgan Defeats IYO SKY to Retain Women’s World Championship at WWE SummerSlam: Minnesota Night One

Liv Morgan reigned supreme over a defiant IYO SKY in a hugely entertaining opening match of WWE SummerSlam: Minnesota Night One to remain the Women’s World Champion.

Morgan dominated the initial proceedings, even hitting with The Three Amigos, before Iyo rallied back with a Missile Dropkick, a Bullet Train attack, and a Sunset Flip Powerbomb off the apron.

IYO went for the Over The Moonsault. However, before she could execute that, Roxanne Perez came up on the apron to distract the official. This allowed Raquel to sneak up on the other side and Chokeslam the challenger.

However, IYO managed to kick out. She ultimately wiped out Roxanne and Raquel with her trademark Moonsault at ringside.

A Spanish Fly to Morgan from the top turnbuckle, but the champion lived to fight another day. Liv averted another Bullet Train Attack and went for the Oblivion, but she couldn’t nail it. IYO responded with an Oblivion of her own, but Morgan kicked out yet again.

Liv responded with a Codebreaker off the top rope, but this time IYO kicked out. A back-and-forth ensued, with IYO getting the better of the exchange. She hit Liv with a German Suplex on the apron and followed it up with a Bullet Train Attack. IYO went for her trademark Moonsault, but this time, Morgan got her knees up. Morgan then hit another Oblivion. However, SKY immediately stood up. An irated Liv didn’t waste time and planted her opponent with another Codebreaker and Oblivion to secure the pinfall and avenge the defeat she suffered at the hands of the The Genius of the Sky in the Queen of the Ring finals.

This was Morgan’s first title defense. She captured the championship from Stephanie Vaquer at WrestleMania 42 Night One.
