According to PWinsider.com, Michael Hayes was the one who pitched the revival of the Starrcade event, and did so back in June. Hayes made the proposal once he realized that WWE was running Greensboro over Thanksgiving weekend, as he hoped the company would play off of the tradition and importance of the event in the market. Vince McMahon approved the idea and it was announced several months later. Hayes wrote the show with an eye on paying tribute to names who were important to the market during the Jim Crockett Promotions era and with throwback graphics for the show. The show was never slated to be a Network special and was produced as a house show, but WWE did film it with several cameras (they typically film every live event) so they would have it in their archives. Due to the boost in ticket sales and the huge response to the event on social media, there is talk of doing the event again next year.
