It was reported WWE was looking to potentially work more openly with Japanese promotions, and a new report has some additional details on the matter. As noted, the WON had reported that WWE is looking into establishing partnerships with Japanese wrestling promotions and that All-Japan Pro Wrestling was said to be “step one” in the matter, with Charlie Dempsey having gone there to compete at their recent show in a match against Triple Crown champion Katsuhiko Nakajima.

Fightful Select reports that one source told them that the WWE and AJPW relationship is a “wait and see how it goes” situation but that things were looking positive thus far. The source noted that WWE has been more relaxed about the potential of working with other companies since Nick Khan came into power, though it was said to simply be that the timeline added up as opposed to something he was directly responsible for. AJPW sources said that they were happy with Charlie Dempsey’s appearance and that he was a great representative for WWE, while NXT sources said Dempsey was treated well during his trip.

There have been rumors of WWE potentially working with STARDOM and NJPW as well. WWE sources told the outlet that no deal was in place and they weren’t aware of conversations, though it was noted that this is a new era for WWE. The company has been said to be interested in some sort of connection with NJPW for a long time, but people in both companies consider it unlikely considered NJPW and AEW’s partnership. It was noted that Vince McMahon usually shut down any discussion of such a relationship pretty quickly and that with new faces in charge both in WWE and NJPW, it is at least more likely than it had previously been.
