OVW Taping Results (SPOILERS)

Here’s what happened at the Ohio Valley Wrestling television tapings last night at the Davis arena in Louisville, Kentucky. But first, a few notes from last week, since they only taped two matches for television last week. The rest of what aired on television last Saturday was a recap show. They aired a recap of Paredyse introducing his “Man-servant”, lady wrestler CJ Lane, and clips from his ongoing feud with Rudy Switchblade. They aired a long recap of the build up to the OVW title match at Saturday Night Special on Oct 9th between OVW champion “Lowrider” Matt Barela and Mike Mondo, with Cliff Compton asking to face the winner. They also showed the finish and post match from the Barela vs. Mondo match, with Compton interfering, at Saturday Night Special. Barela retained the title.

Also one more quick note from last week, the guy that lost to Mommhad Ali Vaez is named Andy Baker, not Eddie Baker as I listed it. Baker is from England, and trained with Les Thatcher at HWA in Cincinnati several years ago, as well as training at OVW years ago.

But back to the now. The crowd tonight was again small, around 70, so they’re sure not drawing much. I also noticed some of the banners for different sponsors on the side rails around the ring are gone, so I guess they’ve lost a few sponsors. But good news, we fans could hear the ring announcers tonight great! Thank you OVW for that. They used a corded mic, and had the speakers on. Keep it like that please. The TV announcers were Dean Hill and Kenny Bolin. Ron Hed and Brittany DeVore were the ring announcers.

1. Chris Carnage beat Mitch Johnson

Or is it spelled Kris Karnage? Who knows. Dark match. This was the big, muscled up, angry looking blonde guy I mentioned was here hanging out in the crowd with Sean Casey last week. Carnage is huge. Sorta reminds me of a 2010 version of the Warlord. Not quite that big, but big nevertheless. Looks to be about the same level of a worker too. Heh. This was short, but Carnage wasn’t too impressive. He won with Lex Lugar’s old Torture rack back breaker finisher.

2. James “Moose” Thomas beat Tilo Samoa

Battle of the big men here. Also a dark match. Tilo put up a battle here. He tried to pick up Moose for his Samoan drop finisher, but had to set him back down, and was favoring his back. Thomas then won with his twirling sidewalk slam. Fun for what it was.

Ron Hed counted the crowd down to start the TV tapings twice, but they weren’t ready production wise twice, which cracked Dean Hill up so much he left the announce desk laughing, then comically told Hed….WE’RE NOT READY!!!

3. Raul Lamotta & Jimbo Onno beat The Elite(Ted McNaler & Adam Revolver)

This match was the start of the TV taping. Heels vs. heels. Lots of chops in this one. Average match, but had a fantastic finish, though Revolver didn’t look as sharp as usual this match. The finish saw both Lamotta and Revolver pull out the ‘Ol Tennessee chains at the same time, and start wrapping their fists with them, but Lamotta was a bit faster and hit Revolver with the chain as Revolver was swinging at him, and it resulted in a big upset win for Lamotta and Onno. Not sure what the plans for th Elite are going forward here. It almost seems they’re going to be suspended in Jim Cornette booking animation until around Thanksgiving when the 90 day stip that the Elite can’t face Fighting Spirit is up. But that’s just a guess on my part.

Speaking of Jim Cornette, he got in the ring, and bought out OVW champ “Lowrider” Matt Barela. Cornette said at the next Saturday Night Special on November, 13th, it would be Barela defending the title against “Mr. Media” Cliff Compton. Mike Mondo came out and begged Cornette not to make Compton the number one contender, and asked for another shot at Barela on November 13th.

Barela asked Mondo what makes him think he deserves another shot at the title, he said during their match on Oct. 9th, that Cliff Compton never touched Mondo, instead he, Barela, was dropped on his head by Compton during that match, yet he still retained the title. Which was all true. Cornette agreed, and added that before that match, Mondo said he only needed one shot at the title. Which was true.

Mondo said after Compton dropped Barela on his head, he could have won the title, but he’s not that kind of a guy. And, after Compton attacked Barela, he Mondo hit Compton and knocked him out of the ring, and when he turned back around, Barela speared him, and gave him the neckbreaker and beat him. Which is all true. He said if Compton hadn’t of interfered, he never would have beat him. Which is debatable.

Barela said after he beat Mondo, and Compton and Mo Green attacked Mondo after the match, that he Barela ran in a saved Mondo. Which is true. Barela said no to Mondo getting another title shot. Mondo got in his face, then Cliff Compton came out.

Compton again called Mondo and Barela two old ladies arguing. Compton called Mondo a thankless little Bastard. He said he handed the OVW title to Mondo on a silver platter, but he was too stupid to take it. He threw a quarter at Mondo and said, “Take it and call somebody that cares”.

Compton told Barela on November 13th it was only going to take him three seconds to beat him. Mo Green sounded an air horn twice. Barela called Mo Green Compton’s little boyfriend, and told Green and Compton if they try anything funny on Nov. 13th, they’d find their names in the paper in the “O-B!TCH-uaries”. Long segment. The people around me weren’t that into it. But I liked it. I liked the storytelling to it. Nobody was lying during it, everyone had a valid points, but while not lying, everyone tried to make themselves come off as good as possible.

4. Rudy Switchblade beat Shawn Cook

The fans were calling Cook “Bart Simpson” during this. Switchblade won with a top rope crossbody, but Cook kicked out before the finish. Cook seemed a step off this whole match for some reason.

Cornette got back in the ring and called out Paredyse and his “Man-servant”, lady wrestler CJ Lane. Paredyse said Lane takes care of all his needs, including, but not limited to “the girl talk with a pint of cookies & cream ice cream”. Paredyse said he doesn’t get women, Cornette said he’s not surprised. But Paredyse said Lane “gets him”.

Cornette brought up Rudy Switchblade, saying he wants a piece of Paredyse. Paredyse said a few weeks ago it repulsed Switchblade to touch him, and now he wants another piece. Paredyse went Soup Nazi and said “Switchblade, no more Paredyse for you”. Heh. He said he gave Switchblade his final kiss, and he may want more, but my lips are sealed.

Cornette said as matchmaker, he has added Switchblade vs. Paredyse for November 13th at Saturday Night Special. Switchblade came out. He said the only reason Paredyse beat him, and kissed him, was because of CJ Lane. Switchblade then produced a pair of handcuffs, and said Lane would be handcuffed to the ring post for their match. Lane said she’s been handcuffed before, and she likes it. Switchblade said that’s because your balls are bigger than his.

Switchblade and Paredyse started brawling, with Lane getting involved. Switchblade ended up getting handcuffed to the top rope, and Paredyse kissed him. Switchblade got out of the cuffs quickly, but Paredyse got away.

5. Taryn Shay w/Lady JoJo beat Holly Blossom w/Hannah Blossom

Lady JoJo, the OVW Women’s champ, wore a “dress” made out of actual newspaper and colored strips covered with plastic wrap. It looked cool, but was coming apart on her. JoJo joined Hill and Bolin at the desk for some of this, but came back to ringside and grabbed Holly’s foot as she went for a Monkey flip, and Taryn got the cheap win. When did Taryn turn heel exactly? Beats me.

6. Metal Master vs. Mohammad Ali Vaez w/Mr. B went to a 10 minute draw, so MM retained the OVW TV title

This was the TV main event. It went a little longer than 10 minutes actually, over 11. This was Vaez’ first rematch at the title he lost to Metal Master on September 15th. They announced the 10 minute time limit before the match, so it was clear that was going to play a big role in the outcome. They normally don’t announce time limits here. MM hit a dive to the outside early, and had Vaez in a cool looking full nelson submission move in the ring. Vaez put the Camel Cluch on MM. Around the 7 minute mark, Vaez went for his double armed DDT finisher, but MM fought out of it, but Vaez tried it again, and landed it, but MM kicked out. MM caught Vaez in something similar to Brain Danielson’s submission finisher, but Vaez made the ropes. MM hit a top rope shoulder block, and crossbody, and stiff second rope dropkick, but couldn’t finish Vaez off. MM hit his Jackhammer finisher, but the bell rang and the match was ruled a draw. They did some time shaving down the stretch. Ron Hed said 30 seconds left, and the bell rang ending the match just over 10 seconds later.

The post match saw Vaez take the mic and ask for 5 more minutes. The crowd wanted it. MM got in the ring, but Vaez blitzed him from behind. Referee Chris Sharpe admonished Vaez, so Vaez slugged him. Another ref came in, who was kicked and then thrown out by Mr. B. Vaez then pulled the mask off the head of the Metal Master, and he covered his face on the mat. Fighting Spirit(Christoper Silvio & Raphael Constantine) ran out and covered MM’s head with a cloth, and helped him out. Vaez held the mask in the air as a prize on the outside. I don’t think we’ve seen the last of Metal Master vs. Mohammad Ali Vaez.

7. Fighting Spirit (Christopher Silvio & Raphael Constantine) beat Diamonds in the rough (David Young & Sigmon) by DQ to retain the OVW Southern tag team titles

Dark match, but the OVW tag belts were on the line. Young and Sigmon were billed as the Georgia State tag team champions here, though they had no title belts with them. A nice surprise seeing them here. Sigmon was here back in July, losing to then TV champ Mohammad Ali Vaez. David Young is really beefy looking nowadays. His chest is really big from a lot of pumping iron, but his belly is even bigger. He still moves well in the ring though, but looks too heavy. They did a spot early where Sigmon DDT’d his partner David Young after Constantine speared Sigmon. A double superkick knocked Young out of the ring, and Sigmon got thrown into him on the outside. The Diamonds finally got untrapped, and Constantine took the heat. Young hit a cool looking double swinging side slam on Constantine. Young however, missed a top rope Moonsault. Silvio hit his double knees to the face finisher on Sigmon, but Constantine, for some weird reason, tripped David Young at the same time, and Young landed right on top of Ref Chris Sharpe, and Young and Sigmon were then disqualified by the other ref, a black guy, that ran out. Odd finish. Young really squashed Sharpe, so I guess it wasn’t his night the last two matches. The post match saw Young hit a big Spinebuster on Constantine. Silvio grabbed Kenny Bolin’s cane to run the Diamonds off.

The match quality was up and down this show, but it was fun overall. Mike Mondo, Metal Master, and Lady JoJo all worked for ROH in Dayton and Chicago this past weekend.
