OVW taped television at the Davis arena in Louisville, Kentucky last night. Crowd was again in the same range, but on the small side of the same range. Maybe 70 tops. Ron Hed and Brittany DeVore were the ring announcers. Dean Hill and Kenny Bolin were the TV announcers.

This was the “go home” show for their “Saturday Night Special” show being held this Saturday, November 13th, at the Davis arena. On that card is “Lowrider” Matt Barela defending the OVW heavyweight title against “Mr. Media” Cliff Compton with Mike Mondo watching from ringside, Fighting Spirit(Christopher Silvio & Raphael Constantine) defending the OVW Southern tag titles against Jimbo Onoo & Raul Lamotta, Rudy Switchblade vs Paredyse with CJ Lane handcuffed to the ring post, The Blossom twins vs Lady JoJo & Taryn Shay, a live “Bolin Alley” segment with Kenny Bolin interviewing Armando Alejandro Estrada, and other stuff. OVW has a colored ad in this weeks Louisville Velocity magazine for Saturday Night Special.

Louisville looks to be the place to be for both wrestlers, and wrestling fans, in early December. Dec 4th and 5th will be a tryout camp at the Davis Arena. John Laurinitis of the WWE will be there scouting talent, aka underwear models, on Sunday afternoon the 5th from 3 till 6 pm. Jim Cornette said on his new “Cornette’s Commentaries” podcast on Who’s Slamming Who that he won’t be there while Laurinitis is there because he’s allergic to a-holes. lol Not sure if he was kidding about that or not…He probably wasn’t kidding.

Then it’s “wrestling week” in Louisville. RAW is on Louisville Monday Dec. 6th. OVW TV taping at Davis arena Dec 8th. Cornette said on his podcast that Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas will be at that OVW TV taping, along with other surprises. ROH tapes television at the Davis arena on December 9th and 10th, The first time they’ve taped TV outside of Philadelphia. Pretty much all of the big name ROH talent will be there. Cornette said both of those ROH shows will have an OVW title defense on them, one for the heavyweight title, one for the tag titles. Then finally on December 11th will be the next OVW Saturday Night Special. Cornette said some ROH guys may possibly hang around and be on that show. So quite an incredible week of wrestling for one town. I’ll be very curious to see how the attendance does having 4 shows in 4 days at the Davis arena. Also if the crowd reactions can stay decent for that long. I’d think they crowd would be real fried by that Saturday, Dec. 11th show. Heh. They have a deal going where fans can attend all four shows for just 37 dollars, and have a special rates on a hotel deal at the Springhill Suites by Marriott. Ask for the ROH rate, and get a room for 79 bucks a night.

1. The Elite (Ted McNaler & Adam Revolver) beat Elvis & Tilo Samoa

Dark match. No, it wasn’t THAT Elvis. This is the guy lady wrestler CJ Lane used to slap around before she became Paredyse’ “man-servant”. Dean Hill mentioned on TV a few weeks ago that Tilo Samoa is legally blind, due to him being Albino. He’s a legally blind Albino Samoan. His main move is the head butt. Wow, that’s kinda sacry for a legally blind guy to be head butting people. heh. He shows a lot of light in most of them though. The only other legally blind pro wrestler I can think of off the top of my head was George George Weingeroff. Anyhow, Elvis took the heat here. He made the tag to Samoa, unseen by the referee. Hey, maybe the ref’s blind too? As Samoa argued with the ref over whether he tagged or not, the Elite hit their double team spear move on Elvis and won the match.

Jim Cornette came out and plugged this Saturday’s “Saturday Night Special”, and the ROH TV tapings Dec. 9th and 10th.

2. Mike Mondo beat Alex Silva

This was the start of the TV taping. Silva was the guy who faced Paredyse here last week, and I didn’t catch his last name. He’s billed as being from Lisbon, Portugal, but I believe he’s actually out of Montreal. Good looking guy and athlete. Mondo and Silvia exchanged hard chops from the get go, and Silva landed his unique looking running knee on Mondo early, which looks fairly devastating. Silva followed that with a very unique looking inverted facebreaker on Mondo. After that, Mondo tried to keep Silva grounded for awhile. Mondo scored with a one armed Diamond Cutter. Silva came back, and tried his running knee again, but Mondo caught him this time and twisted it into a half Boston crab. Silva went for a Hurracanrana, but Mondo caught that and twisted it into a full Boston crab on Silva in mid ring. Silvia made the ropes. Mondo won the match with the Gut-Buster ala Roderick Strong. Really fun TV match.

Dean Hill and Kenny Bolin did a stand up in front of the announce desk. Bolin plugged his live “Bolin Alley” interview with Armando Alejandro Estrada this Saturday. Bolin also said he has a special announcement coming next week at the TV taping concerning his future in OVW. Bolin said on his last podcast he might quit OVW, so we’ll see if that’s what the announcement is or not.

They showed clips of last week where Mohammad Ali Vaez w/ Mr. B regained the OVW TV title by beating the Metal Master. A mystery man hit the ring when the ref was down and attacked MM during that match.

Jim Cornette got in the ring, and Mohammad Ali Vaez came out. Bringing Mr. B with him, and the mystery man, now identified as Omar Akbar, who wore an Arab headdress. Akbar and Vaez teamed up some time back in OVW as “The Insurgency”. Vaez spoke of the conspiracy theory against him in OVW. He said for two months “That criminal” Metal Master ducked his contractually obligated rematch, and Cornette allowed it. Vaez said he wasn’t surprised when Cornette put himself in the announce booth for his match last week at the very last minute. Cornette took exception to that. Vaez spoke of the referee ejecting Mr. B, his security, during his match last week, saying it was no coincidence. Cornette said Mr. B interfered in the match. Cornette asked Vaez how he explains Akbar interfering in the match last week. Vaez said calling it interference is a strong word, he prefers to call it “Leveling the playing field”. He said Akbar came out to investigate what happened after Metal Master knocked out the referee, to insure Vaez could compete on a level playing field. Vaez said he’s a man of privilege, his father is very rich. He has a huge trust fund. He said he’s known Akbar all of his life. Akbar is the son of his fathers Gardener. Heh. He said even at age 7, Akbar looked out for Vaez’ best interests, and had a knack for “solving problems”. Cornette said so Akbar was the fool that took the fall when Vaez got in trouble. Vaez disagreed. He said Akbar has his back, and always has. Vaez then started speaking in Arabic. Vaez then smugly left.

This was a long promo, and I thought Vaez did a Hell of a job here with his delivery. But it got little heat. Almost none. Vaez was drenched in sweat at the end of this. His shirt was soaked clear thru, his head glistening. They shot this just slightly differently. Instead of standing in mid ring, they stood more with their backs to a corner. I think they’re way over doing the “conspiracy theory” stuff in OVW. In the last two weeks, both Vaez, and babyface Mike Mondo, have accused Cornette of it, and neither has a leg to stand on really. Comes off weak.

3. Raul Lamotta & Jimbo Onoo beat Jeff Early & Eddie Diamond

The Elite came out in suits and ties and joined Hill and Bolin in the announce booth for this. In fact, Hill eventually left the booth, and it was just the Elite and Bolin. Early, I think, was in better shape of the two jobbers here, and look like jobbers these two did. The problem here is Lamotta & Onoo work like glorfied jobbers themselves. This match just wasn’t up to OVW standards in my book. OVW is better than the standard run of the mill Independent promotion, so when run of the mill style Indy guys come in here, they kinda stick out like a turd in a punch bowl. Early hit a top rope elbow early, no pun intended. Early and Diamond got quite a bit of offense in here. They lost however, when Lamotta and Onoo looked to be setting up the old Hart Attack finisher. They used it last week and it looked like total crap. This week however, Onoo held the guy in place in mid air, and Lamotta hit a 2nd rope splash on him for the win. It too, looked like total crap. Lamotta & Onoo will not go down as one of the greatest tag teams in OVW history, let alone pro wrestling history. The more I see of them as a team, the less I like them as a team. I’ll be totally shocked if they beat Fighting Spirit for the tag belts this Saturday. I certainly hope not.

They showed clips from last week of the OVW heavyweight title drama between champion “Lowrider” Matt Barela, Mike Mondo, and Cliff Compton. Ending with Compton whipping Barela with a belt, and Mondo on the floor refusing to help anyone.

4. “Mr. Media” Cliff Compton w/Mo Green & The Paparazzi guy beat Ryan Nemeth by DQ

Compton came out and sprayed Dean Hill right flush in the face with Silly String. Really got him with it. Hill legit didn’t look too thrilled about it, and had Silly String all over his sport coat the rest of the show. Damn. Compton beat Nemeth in the opener of the October Saturday Night Special. Nemeth is the legit brother of Dolph Ziggler. Has a great look and body, but is super green. Nemeth got some offense in early, but Compton took his head off with a clothesline, and lit him up with a big open hand chop. Nemeth answered with a back suplex and a rolling cradle for a two count. Compton regained control, but “Lowrider” Matt Barela ran out and started whipping Compton with a belt, as payback from last week, and this caused Nemeth to be disqualified. The geek squad ran out to keep Barela and Compton separated. Barela then cut a promo on Compton saying he’d beat him and retain the title this Saturday.

5. “Lowrider” Matt Barela beat James “Moose” Thomas

Barela just stayed in the ring after his attack on Compton. This was announced as a non-title match, and it was the TV main event. Barela won the OVW heavyweight title from Thomas on July 31st, so this was quite a stiff test for Barela going into Saturday Night Special. Cornette really hasn’t done anything with Thomas yet since he’s come back as matchmaker. He gave Thomas a match against Nick Dinsmore his first night back, and that’s it of any importance, unless you count this match. Thomas is the biggest guy in OVW, but he tries to work real light, which is ok, but the problem is it’s real obvious to see that he’s trying to work real light. He needs to be a lot more of a mauler in my book. Barela came out firing early on Thomas. Moose came back with a kick to the head as Barela was coming back thru the ropes. Thomas stayed in control for awhile. Barela came back, but out to the desk came Cliff Compton and Mo Green. I could hear all the way in the stands that Compton was again saying racial things about Barela. It was pretty obvious Compton would get involved in the finish here, and he did. Compton got on the apron, but Barela slugged him off. Compton got on the apron again, but Barela whipped Moose into him. Compton took a big bump to the floor, and Barela rolled up Thomas for the win. This match was a disappointment really, just so-so at best. But, it was really just a backdrop for the upcoming Barela vs Compton match. Barela and Thomas are not two guys that bring out the best in each other it seems, though I was told they had a good hardcore style match awhile back. That probably lends itself better to their styles than a standard wrestling match like this. It’s interesting to note here that Mike Mondo didn’t get involved at all tonight with the Barela and Compton stuff.

6. Fighting Spirit (Christopher Silvio & Raphael Constantine) beat Mohammad Ali Vaez & Omar Akbar w/Mr. B

Dark match. I think this was non-title, but not 100% sure. Akbar is a strong looking guy, has a power lifter look, and good size. I was impressed with him here. He’s not flashy, but plays his role well. He dominated Silvio early, just took him on the mat and mauled him. Fighting Spirit had a whole lot of trouble handling Akbar this whole match really. Silvio came back with some leg kicks, and Fighting Spirit hit a double drop kick. Every time Vaez was in, Silvio tried to catch him in what’s now known as the “Labell Lock”. I still call it the “Crippler Crossface” though. Fighting Spirit hit a double team wheelbarrow into a seat drop onto Vaez. They later hit a big double superkick on Vaez. Constantine hit a running elbow on Vaez. Mr. B tripped Constantine coming off the ropes, leading to Constantine taking the heat. Vaez scored with a running kick to the head of Constantine. Akbar caught Constantine as he tried a crossbody, and dropped him with a wicked powerslam. Silvio finally came back in and landed more kicks, and caught Vaez in the Crippler Crossface. Akbar kicked Vaez on the top of the head by accident. Silvio with a double stomp on Akbar off the top. Vaez with a double armed DDT on Silvio, followed by a Camel Clutch. The finish saw Mr. B get up on the apron to hold Silvio, but couldn’t do it. Akbar crashed into B, and Silvio rolled up Akbar for the win. Hard fought match, and they went awhile, around 15 minutes. They need to get more creative with these finishes though. This was pretty much the same finish we saw in the match before. They over-do this finish here anyhow. The postmatch saw Vaez, and especially Akbar, get angry and shove Mr. B around. Vaez gave B a stern lecture while Akbar held his arms back.
