Backstage Update On Brian ‘Road Dogg’ James’ TNA Wrestling Status

Brian “Road Dogg” James’ expected move to TNA Wrestling appears to have hit a roadblock, with a new report indicating that talks between the two sides have “stalled.”

After returning to WWE in January 2022, he served as SmackDown’s co-lead writer and played a role in the brand’s creative direction before leaving the company in March 2026, although he remains under a Legends contract.

Despite being a WWE Hall of Famer, Road Dogg also has history with TNA dating back to the promotion’s early years, when he competed as B.G. James.  Back in June, multiple reports suggested James was expected to join TNA’s creative team. He was even backstage at Slammiversary but didn’t make a TV appearance.

According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, negotiations between James and TNA have stalled, and the two sides are not believed to be close to reaching an agreement.

“Talks with Brian James to come here [TNA] have stalled. He didn’t make a deal, and right now they don’t seem to be close to a deal.”

At the time, TNA’s creative team included Hunter Johnston, better known to wrestling fans as Delirious, along with TNA’s Executive Creative Director and Vice President of TV Production Eric Tompkins. The department was reshaped following Tommy Dreamer’s departure earlier in June 2026.
