Ronnie’s Reviews: TNA Slammiversary 2006

TNA Slammiversary 2006

-Video package to kick things off, putting over the violence of the KOTM match. Things are different this time though. Killings is more prepared, Abyss has Mitchell in his corner, and Jarrett needs it while Sting and Christian both don’t know what to expect. The egos of Sting and Christian are going to meet up for the first time, while Jarrett takes the role of the wildcard. I loved the hype going into this match. This is Christian’s time.

-Tenay welcomes us to the PPV as the pyro goes off, and we’re gonna get things started right away with…

Match 1 : The James Gang vs Team 3D – Bingo Hall Brawl

Team 3D and The James Gang come up the ramp, already brawling with each other. Ray just starts throwing chairs into the ring. Kip hits Ray with a chair, and now they both have them. Kip hits Ray in the back with one. BG throws one to Ray. Ray catches it and Kip smashes him in the face. Devon has a kendo stick and he’s going to town on The James Gang with it. BG goes for a right, but Devon ducks and clocks him with the stick. Reverse 3D to Kip connects, but Devon only gets two on the pin. Ray then hits Kip with the kendo stick, sending him to the outside. Devon and BG battle it out through the crowd, as BG throws Devon into the Spanish announce table. Homicide and Hernandez are now beating up Devon. BG tries to join in, but Konnan hits him with a right, allowing LAX to beat BG up too. Both guys are now on the ramp. Ray sets up a piece of the guardrail on a set of chairs, but Kip throws him headfirst onto the entrance ramp. Kip charges Ray, but Ray hiptosses him onto the guardrail. BG dives off the steps over the guardrail and onto Devon. Ray soon follows as they battle it out through the crowd. Ray and Devon just trading rights on BG, and then Ray throws his head into a chair being held by a fan. Kip comes out now and hits Ray and Devon with a trashcan lid. Ray grabs a trashcan filled with weapons and throws it into the ring. Kip follows him in, along with BG and Devon. Ray’s got a bra and chokes Kip with it. He’s now got a cheese grater, but Kip low blows him before he can use it. Kip charges Ray in the corner, but Ray hits him with the grater. Ray then grates his head with the grater. BG takes Ray out with a trashcan lid. Then BG and Devon hit each other at the same time with the lids. Slam to BG by Ray. WAAZZUPPP!!! What goes up, must come down. There was a trashcan lid on BG’s crotch when that connected too. Ray puts the trashcan lid over BG’s nuts and hits him with a golf club. Kip hits Ray with the Fame Asser onto the trash can. Cover but only two. Kip is gushing blood now. Kip mounts Devon in the corner and starts hitting him with the tray. Ray hits Kip in the back and Devon goes to the top. Doomsday Device connects. Pin but only two. DEVON!!! GET THE TABLES!!!! Devon grabs a table and brings it into the ring. The fans are chanting for fire. BG hits Ray with the tray, and Devon sends him over the top. Kip looks to hit the cobra clutch slam on Devon, but he counters and… 3D THROUGHT THE TABLE!!!!! That’s all folks.

Winners : Team 3D (*** – I love openers when the opponents basically just go out there and beat the ever living shit out of each other. The crowd was totally into this too, so this was one awesome way to kick things off)

-Post match sees Brother Ray pick up the mic. He says that’s how it should be done.

-Tenay and West run down the card, for the two people at home that don’t know what it is. Seriously, who buys a PPV not knowing what the matches are.

-JB is in the back with Double J. Jarrett says it’s do or die tonight. It’s nights like this that good performers become great. His entire life people have said he can’t do it, but he proved them wrong. His very first year in wrestling, he was named rookie of the year. That must have been a shitty year for rookies. Jarrett says he’s the Michael Jordan, Joe Montana of professional wrestling. Critics didn’t give TNA 6 weeks to survive, yet here they are 4 years later. In the KOTM match, 5 guys go in, 1 guy goes out champion. Sting’s agenda is to keep him from winning the title. He says Christian is bluffing, because he has a huge ego. Christian and Sting’s egos will cancel them out. Killings and Abyss aren’t smart enough to slide in the back door. Zybysko interrupts Jarrett, saying that the new face of TNA Management is the person who Jarrett thought it was. Jarrett says Larry has screwed up crap time and time again, and tonight, he’ll fix it.

Match 2 : Rhino vs Bobby Roode and Coach D’Amore – Handicapped match

Rhino wanted this match so he could get his revenge on Coach D’Amore and Team Canada at the same time. D’Amore grabs a mic, and says Rhino made this a handicapped match because Rhino couldn’t handle a one on one as kicking, courtesy of Coach D’Amore. The only thing handicapped about this match is Rhino’s IQ. Awesome. He tells Bobby that his job is to sit there and be dazzled by his catch as catch can’s brilliance. Rhino interrupts him, and charges to the ring. D’Amore bails out immediately.

Rhino and Bobby going at it as Rhino hits him with a backdrop. Roode then bails out. D’Amore gets into the ring, but tags in Roode. Rhino goes after D’Amore, allowing Roode to take control. Headlock by Roode, but Rhino pushes him off and shoulder blocks him down. Roode tries to float over Rhino in the corner, but Rhino didn’t charge him. Roode realizes Rhino isn’t there and yells out, “SHIT!” really loudly. He turns around right into a clothesline by Rhino. D’Amore refuses to tag in. Roode turns around, and slaps Roode on the back, not knowing that was a tag. Rhino then brings him into the ring. D’Amore bails out, and Rhino chases after him, allowing Roode to hit him with a clothesline. Roode now throws Rhino back in the ring as D’Amore goes for a cover, but only gets two. He’s now stomping Rhino, and then does some jumping jacks. Rhino goes to attack him, but Roode hits Rhino with a stunner. D’Amore now does some push ups and flexes. Roode gets tagged back in and chokes Rhino on the ropes. Roode with a hard irish whip, sending Rhino into the other turnbuckle. Pin but only two. D’Amore gets the tag, but Rhino goozles him. D’Amore counters and hit’s a jawbreaker. Rhino goes for a Rhino Driver but Roode attacks him from behind. Cover by D’Amore but only gets two on the pin. Roode now gets tagged back in and hits Rhino with a suplex. Roode’s now choking Rhino. Rhino hulks up and comes back with the right, only to get hit with a bigger one by Roode. Cover but again only two. D’Amore gets tagged back in and hits Rhino off the second rope. Leg drop by D’Amore to follow up, and then drops a fist into the face. He drops a knee before tagging Roode back in. Roode laying in the stomps before locking in a chin lock. Rhino comes back with the rights. Belly to belly suplex by Rhino, and now both guys are down. Roode gets the boots up in the corner as Rhino charges and then hits him with a neck breaker. D’Amore gets tagged back in and tells Roode to position Rhino as he goes for a moonsault. It doesn’t connect though as Rhino rolled out of the way. Roode comes off the top but Rhino hits him on the way down. Flying shoulder block by Rhino, and he follows up by spearing him in the corner. D’Amore hits Rhino with the hockey stick. He tries to lift Rhino on his shoulders, but he can’t. Spinebuster to D’Amore, and then he sends Roode over the top. GORE TO D’AMORE!!! But D’Amore kicks out. Nah, just kidding. It’s over.

Winner : Rhino (** – Handicapped matches can be tricky to do, but this one was done pretty nicely. D’Amore got in little offense while Roode was in control most of the match. And in the end, we got the Gore to D’Amore, so it’s all good.

-JB is in the back with Samoa Joe. He says last year Joe made his debut in TNA, and since then, everyone has fallen to him. He has never faced anyone like Steiner though. Joe says Steiner has never faced anyone like Joe. Steiner has some big weapons in his arsenal, but he won’t be able to intimidate Joe tonight. Steiner does have one advantage, and that’s that he’s never been pinned in TNA. But tonight, he’ll take that away from him.

Match 3 : Senshi vs Shark Boy vs Petey Williams vs Jay Lethal vs Alex Shelley vs Sonjay Dutt – X-Division Rankings match

The rules to this one are that there are elimination rules, and at which spot you get eliminated will effect your ranking. Whoever wins will get a title shot.

Shark Boy and Williams start things off. Shoulder block by Shark Boy, and he counters a monkey flip with a kick to the face. Slap by Petey, but he runs into a dropkick. Armdrag to follow up, and he’s now biting the hand. Petey fights out with the right hands, but he runs into a backdrop. He mounts Petey in the corner and he hit’s the rights. Petey counters with a reverse atomic drop and ties him to the tree of woe. “Oh Canada” attempt, but Shark Boy bites his ass instead. Vaulting body press by Shark Boy to Williams on the outside. Shark Boy tags in Lethal. Both guys hit Petey with clothesline in the corner and a Hart Attack/leg kick combo. Backbreaker by Lethal to follow. Lethal floats over Petey, but Petey counters with a knee to the head and a dropkick. Senshi tags in and hits Lethal with a kick to the chest. He hits another and goes for the pin, but only gets one. Knife edge chop by Senshi, and another. Lethal with a big one of his own, and now they’re trading chops. Dropkick to Senshi follows. Senshi ducks a clothesline but gets planted with a huge flapjack. Lethal runs into a spinkick to the gut, and Senshi follows it up with a kick to the back of the head. Shelley gets the tag now as he and Senshi hit Lethal with a double back elbow. Cross arm necktie submission by Shelley. Lethal floats over in an attempt to counter, but he turns it into a backbreaker. Pin but only two. Lethal hit’s a jawbreaker, but gets hit with a spinkick. Hiptoss by Lethal and cartwheels into a dropkick. Sonjay gets he tag and hit’s a huge hurricanrana. Armdrag follows. Drop toe hold and a rolling senton, followed with a standing moonsault. Pin but only two. Shelley elevates Sonjay to the apron. Sonjay grabs his hand and goes to the top, but Shelley split’s the legs. He then drags him across the top ropes. Spin kick by Shelley follows, but only gets two on the pin. He slams Sonjay down and hit’s a lionsault, but again only gets two on the pin. He sticks his hand down his pants and pie faces Shark Boy. He tells Shark Boy to help him suplex Sonjay, but gets kicked in the gut. Shark Boy looks to suplex Shelley, but Petey runs in to try to suplex Shark Boy. Lethal tries to suplex Petey, and Senshi tries to suplex Lethal. So basically everyone’s fighting for a suplex right now. Lethal, Shark Boy and Dutt triple team suplex Shelley, Senshi and Petey. Shark Boy and Sonjay go at it as Shark Boy hits him with a face buster across the knee. Knee lift by Shark Boy and hit’s a slingshot splash on Dutt. Pin but only two. Dutt with a huge back elbow in the corner. Shark Boy counters and goes for the DSD, but Sonjay holds on. Dutt runs into a neck breaker though, and Shark Boy goes to the top. Elbow drop misses, and Sonjay hit’s a beautiful standing shooting star press to eliminate Shark Boy. Seriously, it looks like he froze in midair on that one.

Eliminated : Shark Boy

Shelley now attacks Dutt, throwing him in the turnbuckle. Sonjay flips out of a backsuplex and hits Shelley. Shelley counters with a huge enzuigiri. Armtrap neck breaker counter by Shelley. Sonjay goes off the top, but Shelley counters. Shelley launches Sonjay into the ropes, but Sonjay lands on the second rope. Shelley then dropkicks the legs of Dutt, and hits him with a backbreaker. Awesome. Springboard dropkick by Lethal to Shelley. Reverse STO by Shelley into the second turnbuckle and he then dropkicks Lethal in the ass. Brainbuster to Lethal connects as Shelley goes to the top. He goes for a senton but Lethal gets the knees up. Lethal Injection connects, and Shelley’s out.

Eliminated : Alex Shelley

Moonsault off the top by Sonjay, taking out all three guys. Lethal goes for a springboard, but Williams avoids it. Lethal hit’s a huge flipping kick on Williams. Diving headbutt misses, and Petey drills him with the Canadian Destroyer, and you know it’s over.

Eliminated : Jay Lethal

Dutt now in and clotheslines Petey in the corner. Dutt elevates Petey to the apron. He goes to powerbomb Petey on the outside, but Senshi chops him in the chest, and Petey hits him with a leg drop. Pin but only two. Dutt hits Petey with a roll up but only gets two. Enzuigiri by Dutt, but again only gets two. Flapjack by Williams, dropping him on the apron. Senshi gets the tag and charges Williams with a flying forearm. Reverse back suplex to Dutt. Senshi goes to the top, but Petey cuts him off. Petey wants the Canadian Destroyer, but Senshi holds on. Flipping reverse DDT to Petey by Dutt, allowing Senshi to hit the Warrior’s Way off the top to eliminate Petey.

Eliminated : Petey Williams

Senshi back to the top, but Dutt cuts him off. Hurricanrana off the top by Dutt, and then hits him with a dropkick. Pin but only two. Dutt ducks a clothesline and hit’s a head scissors into a DDT. Pin but again only gets two. Sunset flip attempt by Sonjay, but he gets drilled with the double foot stomp instead. Pin but only two. Sonjay counters a fisherman’s suplex and hit’s a face buster into a neck breaker combination. Sonjay goes to the top and goes for a 450, but Senshi gets the knees up. Dropkick sends Dutt flying into the corner. Senshi then ties him to the tree of woe and hits him with the Warrior’s Way. There’s no way he’s kicking out of that.

Winner : Senshi (***¾ – An X-Division clinic as all 6 guys just went balls out and did what they do best. Awesome match)

-JB is in the back with Kevin Nash and Alex Shelley. Nash asks Alex what happened. Shelley said there were 10, 20 guys out there. Some of them had knives, and he thinks he spotted a couple of gats. He may not have saw them, lighting probably had something to do with it. Nash wishes Walt Sabin a Happy Father’s Day. He says he’s not picking up the doctor’s bill. He says tonight when Sabin calls his dad after the match, ask him if size doesn’t matter.

Match 4 : Kevin Nash (w/ Alex Shelley) vs Chris Sabin

The story behind this is that Nash wanted to destroy the X-Division. Sabin wasn’t going to stand for it though, and wanted to take out Nash personally. This is Kevin Nash’s first match in over a year, according to Tenay.

Nash starts things off with a knee to Sabin’s gut, following up with some right hands. Sabin ducks two clotheslines and starts kicking Nash’s legs. He starts hitting the rights now, but Nash hits him with a knee to the gut. Sabin slides under Nash and again hits him with the rights. Nash rakes his eyes though. Sabin rolls out of a powerslam and hits Nash with a dropkick. Nash bails out now and calls down Alex Shelley. Shelley distracts Sabin, allowing Nash to hit him with a clothesline. He’s choking him in the corner with his boot now. As he’d doing this, Shelley’s exposing the top turnbuckle. He goes for the snake eyes, but Sabin counters out and shoves him in the corner. Dropkick off the top by Sabin, but Nash kicks out. Sabin wants the Cradle Shock, but he can’t pick him up. Shelley trips Sabin’s leg and Nash takes him down with a boot. Huge sidewalk slam by Nash, but Sabin kicks out of the pin at two. Backbreaker by Nash, and he’s now pushing his head and legs down while he’s wrenching the back against his knee. Pin by Nash but again only gets two. Nash working on Sabin in the corner now. He whips Sabin off into the ropes and hits another boot. Jackknife Powerbomb coming, but Sabin hits him with the rights, causing Nash to fall backwards. Sabin goes for the Cradle Shock and picks him up, but Shelley grabs Nash’s leg and brings him down. Sabin dropkicks Nash in the knee and hits Shelley with a suicide dive. Back in the ring now as Sabin tries to clothesline Nash down, but he won’t go down. Springboard clothesline by Sabin. Pin but only two. Leg drop off the top by Sabin, but again he only gets two on the pin. Sabin goes back to the top, but Shelley crotches him. Nash takes down the straps, and you know what time it is. Jackknife Powerbomb connects, and it’s over.

Winner : Kevin Nash (** – Surprisingly this wasn’t that bad. Sabin doesn’t look half bad here either as Nash needed Shelley to beat Sabin, and this one was loaded with Shelley-ference. Overall, this is watch able, but not much more.

-JB is in the back with AMW and Gail Kim, as tonight they defend the titles against AJ and Daniels. Tonight, AJ and Daniels stand no chance. Two great singles wrestlers step into the ring with one of the greatest tag teams. Their experiment as a tag team has failed. They are the longest reigning tag champs in history. Gail says she doesn’t know what Styles and Daniels are talking about when they say they have an enforcer. Tonight won’t be different from any other night. Storm says AJ and Daniels aren’t tough enough. Sorry about your damn luck.

Match 5 : AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels vs America’s Most Wanted© (w/ Gail Kim) – NWA Tag Team Championship

Backstory – This is AJ and Daniels last opportunity at the tag team titles. They’ve had multiple shots, and every time they’ve come up short as Gail Kim has screwed them over in some way. AJ and Daniels say they have a neutralizer for Kim though.

Before things get started, Harris tells Don West to tell Harris’s dad Happy Fathers Day. Tenay and West won’t shut up about how long AMW have been champs, so you already know how this one’s gonna end.

AJ and Storm are gonna start things off. Tie up and neither man can gain an advantage. Another tie up with Storm locking in a headlock. AJ throws him off but runs into a shoulder block. AJ gets thrown onto the apron. He shoulder blocks Storm and leaps back in. He flips over Storm on the backdrop attempt and hits him with a huge dropkick, even by AJ’s standards. Daniels gets the tag and works on the arm. AJ gets the tag and continues the work on the arm. Daniels back in and he kicks the arm. Storm charges Daniels across the ring and Harris gets the tag. Harris now in an hits AJ with a delayed vertical suplex. Tag to Storm as they hit AJ with stomps in the corner. Eye of the Storm countered by AJ. He leaps for Daniels but Storm charges him into the corner, and follows up with a doublearm underhook twisting sideslam. Storm looks for the 8 Second Ride, but AJ counters out with some knees and then the Pele. Tag to Daniels and Daniels takes both guys out with rights and elbows. Enzuigiri to Harris and he slams Storm down. Split legged moonsault to Storm and he’s now working on Harris. Daniels counters a bulldog into a spinning sitout slam. Gail Kim goes to the top, but AJ throws her into the ring. Some giant chick (Sirelda) comes out and chokeslams Kim. She then throws her out of the ring and carriers her to the back. That apparently was the neutralization that Styles and Daniels talked about. AMW back in control now as Storm brings Daniels to the top. AJ shoves Storm off the top and Daniels rolls up Harris, but only gets two. Angel’s Wings countered into a backdrop by Harris. Rollup to Harris, but Harris shoves him off and Storm plants him with a chair. Cover but only two, and the crowd is going nuts. AJ brings Daniels over to his corner and gets the tag. AJ hit’s a HUGE flying forearm (I’ve never seen him get that high) on Harris. Springboard inverted DDT by AJ. He then hit’s the pump handle gutbuster on Harris. He wants the Spiral Tap. He goes for it, but Harris moves out of the way. Harris now haves the handcuffs and he hits AJ with them. He goes for the cover, but Daniels pulls the ref out of the ring. Storm throws Daniels head into the steps. Death Sentence coming up, but Daniels shoves Storm away, and then hits Harris with the DVD. Somersault flip to Harris by AJ, but he only gets two on the pin. Angel’s Wings coming up on Harris, but Storm hits him with a clothesline. Daniels counters a superkick and punts Daniels in the nuts. ANGEL’S WINGS!! Pin but Harris elbow drops the ref. AJ attacks Harris in the corner. Harris avoids AJ on a second attack. Strom goes to hit Daniels, but he ducks and he hits Harris. They take out Storm. Urinagi to Harris. Frog Splash by AJ. Best. Moonsault. EVAR!!! Pin and that’s it.

Winners : AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels (****¼ – Awesome match here. AJ and Daniels were just an awesome team, as they would come up with some really innovative double teams and their styles just meshed so well together. These two teams put on some awesome matches, but this was by far their best)

Post match sees AJ and Daniels go into the crowd to celebrate.

-JB is in the back with Sting. This is Sting’s first title shot. Sting says it’s good to be in the house, and it’s good to be wrestling for the title in the first King of the Mountain match? I could’ve sworn there’ve been two others, but whatever. After 20 years of wrestling, Sting can finally multi task. If he gets a chance to win the title, he’ll take it. And he wants to keep Jarrett away from any kind of power if it’s the last thing he can do.

-We now get a pretty cool video package highlighting the last 4 years of TNA.

-Tenay is now in the ring with a mic, and he’s going to introduce the new public face of TNA Management. He’s going to hold everyone in TNA accountable of their actions. He has dedicated the last 25 years of his life to the professional wrestling business. Despite having knee surgery earlier this week, he insisted on being here. He is… Mr. Jim Cornette.

And here he comes. He starts swinging around his cane, but it flies away from him. He apparently doesn’t need it though as he walks down to the ring fine. This is probably the only time I’ve ever seen a smile on Jim Cornette’s face. He grabs a mic, and says it’s so good to be back. He knows better than anyone else that that’s what tag team wrestling is all about. TNA is the new face of professional wrestling, and it’s about time. Over the past few weeks, he’s been keeping an eye on things. A lot of people said TNA wouldn’t last four weeks. After those four weeks, people didn’t give it four months. And here they are four years later. TNA is owned by a major corporation, but when they entered this project, they didn’t know about wrestling, so they hired experts. But when they did that, those experts had agendas. He says that’s why he’s there. He may be controversial, maybe politically incorrect, but he knows the tricks. He’s come here at the request of TNA Management to oversee the operations for the fans. There are some guys in the locker room that he expects to step up, and there are guys back there that are sitting back on their reputations. He wants all of us to know that he wants to see every seat full and that he wants to see the fans standing up chanting “TNA”. This message is for everyone in the locker room. He wants people who can have great matches, who can sell PPV’s, and/or can draw ratings. If you can’t do any of these things, you need to explore other opportunities. If it comes down to Jim or you, you ain’t gonna make it. The fans want what’s best, and TNA will soon be the face of wrestling. He knows there’s someone who’s gonna want to try him. Jim urges them to try, but make sure you got cab fare to go home, because they’re gonna be hitting the back door. The fans of TNA are going to benefit from it. He wishes everyone a great night and gets another “TNA” chant going.

-JB’s in the back with Scott Steiner. Steiner says not to call him Samoa Joe, but call him Sloppy Joe. Tonight he’ll find out why Steiner has the reputation that he does. He’s beaten everyone, and who has Joe beaten. There’s some rednecks out in the crowd who wants to see Joe beat him. He knows TNA Management wants Joe to beat Steiner so they can sell the Best of Samoa Joe : Unstoppable DVD. He says it’s crap and that it’s unsellable. Awesome. Tonight, Joe will find out why they call Steiner Big Poppa Pump. Tonight, the win streak is, and tonight, Steiner’s going to kill Joe. I love Steiner promos.

Match 6 : Scott Steiner vs Samoa Joe

This match is being hyped up as the biggest match in TNA history that isn’t a title match. We’ll see how that turns out. This is Joe’s time to prove if he’s main event material, and this is his biggest test to date.

Tie up to start, and Steiner wrenches the arm before hitting him with a fireman’s carry takeover. Steiner takes down Joe and Joe gets to the ropes. Another tie up and Steiner puts Joe in the corner. Chops in the corner and he follows with a huge hip toss. Steiner flexes, so Joe spits in his face. Both guys exchanging rights and Joe hits Steiner with some huge kicks, taking him down. Chop to the back, kick to the chest and he follows with the huge knee drop. Steiner comes back and hit’s a huge belly to belly overhead throw. He’s now choking Joe in the ropes. Steiner charges Joe in the corner but Joe gets the boot up. Face Wash coming up, but Steiner rolls to the outside. Joe with the suicide dive. Joe goes to throw Steiner in the steps, but Steiner counters and throws Joe’s head into the steps. Back in the ring now as Steiner hits Joe with a big clothesline. Elbow drop by Steiner and he does the push ups. Joe comes back with the chops, but Steiner rakes the eyes. Belly to belly suplex by Steiner. He hits Joe with a powerbomb. He goes for the cover, but Joe locks in a triangle choke. Steiner gets to the ropes after some time. Joe with the rapid fire jabs in the corner. Joe charges Steiner in the corner, but Steiner takes him down with a modified urinagi. He then throws Joe to the outside. He throws Joe right into the wall, and he’s now got a chair. The ref grabs the chair from him, and that allows Joe to fight back. He then punches the chair into Steiner’s face. He goes for a clothesline, but Steiner ducks and Joe’s arm rams into the ring post. Steiner then throws Joe into the side of the ring, and hits him with the chair. The announcer says if both guys don’t get into the ring by the count of ten, then they will be disqualified. Steiner hits Joe with the chair before getting back in. Joe barely gets back in at 9. Palm thrust by Joe, but Steiner knees him in the gut. Reverse atomic drop by Joe, flying kick and then the senton. Steiner charges Joe in the corner, but gets planted with that modified urinagi. Steiner goes to slam Joe, but Joe counters into a sitout backsuplex slam of his own. Pin but Steiner kicks out at two. Joe goes for a clothesline but Steiner doesn’t budge. Steiner blocks another attempt but gets locked in the Coquina Clutch. Steiner fights back up to his feet and runs Joe back into the corner. Joe locks it back in, and Steiner hits him with a low blow. Steiner hit’s a huge half nelson suplex, dumping Joe on his head. Steiner Recliner locked in. Joe counters into the electric chair position. He dumps Steiner onto the ropes (but totally botched). Powerslam and he covers for the win? Seriously?

Winner : Samoa Joe (**¼ – The match started out really good, and then progressively got worse. The ending is also ridiculously stupid as they couldn’t just have Joe finish him off with his finishing move? Overall, this match wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t by any means the classic that TNA was probably hoping for.

-JB’s in the back with the champ, Christian Cage. Christian says first things first, Happy Slammiversary. He asks him if they ever thought they’d make it this far. Christian asks “Who’s the champ”. All Christian’s been hearing about how no one has retained the title in this match. He says if he had a dime for everyone that’s told him that within the last few weeks, he’d have like 51 dimes. But that’s neither here nor there. Because what is here is four of the best challengers in TNA history. Christian says Sting said the truth, that once you’ve held the NWA title, you can’t give it up. Tonight, King of the Mountain will be the toughest match of his career. Jarrett likes to talk about the history of TNA. Well ever since Christian stepped foot in a TNA ring, it became his property. You show him all the challengers, and he’ll show them Christian Cage, and he’ll do what no man has done yet. And why? Because that’s how he rolls.

Match 7 : Jeff Jarrett vs Ron Killings vs Abyss (w/ James Mitchell) vs Sting vs Christian Cage© – King of the Mountain match – NWA Heavyweight Championship

Backstory – The intrigue to this one lied completely around Christian, Sting and Jarrett. Christian and Sting had a mutual respect for each other. Sting only wanted to make sure Jarrett didn’t win the match. Jarrett knew though that at some point during the match, the ego’s of Christian and Sting would cancel out. Christian had already proven to be a respectable champion, and he was now out to become one of the greatest.

We get things started off immediately as Sting and Abyss go at it on the outside while Jarrett and Killings do battle on the inside. Christian jumps off the ladder and takes out Abyss. Killings floats over Jarrett, does the split and hit’s a spin kick. Spinning shoulder block on Jarrett connects. Both Killings and Christian hits Jarrett with a double hip toss. Christian turns right into a superkick courtesy of Killings. Cage throws Killings to the outside, and Jarrett starts working on Christian. Christian ducks a right and clothesline Jarrett over the top. Crossbody off the top to the outside by Christian to Jarrett. Axe kick by Killings to Abyss on the inside. Killings then flips over the top. Sting goes to the top and hit’s a crossbody, taking out all 4 guys. Sting taking it to Jarrett back on the inside. Sting Splash connects, and Truth hits Jarrett with a missile dropkick. Killings covers and gets the three. Sting allowed him to do it BTW.

Winner : Jeff Jarrett (***¾ – Solid main event here. It wasn’t the greatest thing ever, but it was a perfectly acceptable KOTM match. This one had a lot of chaotic interference, but it was all fine as Christian still looks strong since he didn’t lose fairly, and Jarrett just becomes a more hated heel)

Bad:
None

Average:
-Rhino vs Roode/D’Amore (As good as a handicapped match can get. This was alright, nothing great, but nothing bad)
-Nash vs Sabin (Again, nothing great, but nothing bad as Sabin did his thing while Nash tossed him around a little bit. Better than expected)
-Steiner vs Joe (Definitely didn’t live up to the hype TNA was trying to set, but I don’t think too many people expected it to. What we got here was a decent match)

Good:
-3D vs James Gang (Good hardcore brawl to kick things off that got the crowd into the show)
-X-Division rankings match (You can’t go wrong with 6 X-Division guys going at it trying to crack into the title picture)
-Styles/Daniels vs AMW (Awesome match here. Styles and Daniels came out looking like one of the best teams ever while AMW still look like a dominant force in the division)
-KOTM match (Good match here and we had a lot of turns and rivalries stem out of this. Some may say it was overbooked, but the match itself is already maxed out on the gimmicks, so who really gives a fuck?)

The 411: Solid event from TNA. There was nothing actually bad about this show. The promo’s were all gold, and the matches all ranged from alright to awesome. Joe/Steiner was a disappointment and Nash/ Sabin and Rhino/Team Canada wasn’t anything to write home about, but other than that, this show is very good. Definitely recommended.
