Sami Callihan Explains How He Was Able to Wrestle for MLW in 2022
Speaking recently with Fightful, Sami Callihan offered some details on the arrangements that allowed him to appear with MLW in 2022 despite being signed to IMPACT at the time. Callihan stated that he shares positive history with MLW’s Court Bauer and a talent exchange was able to bypass his usual contractual exclusivity for IMPACT. You can find a highlight from Callihan and watch the complete interview below.
On working with MLW while still under contract at IMPACT: “Look, I got a pretty good relationship with Court. Me and Court have talked a lot of times about trying to get me back in MLW. When MLW first came back—I want to say, what was it? 2017 / 2018?—I was one of the head agents for that promotion. I was one of the guys that really sat down and helped younger talent. When we did have our falling out, the infamous ‘Jim Cornette Incident,’ I went off, I did my own thing and like weeks later it was like, ‘Oh, yeah. We need to get you back here.’ It’s one of those things, under my contract with IMPACT, I wasn’t even really able to work independent things. I wasn’t able to work for other television companies. The only reason I was able to do the date that I did was because IMPACT and MLW came to an agreement for a talent exchange. So we did a talent exchange for one show. They got me for one show, IMPACT got someone for one show. But other than that, that was going to be a one time thing.”
