Sareee Comments on Being Ruled Out of Owen Hart Cup & Maya World Replacing Her at Dynamite: Summer Blockbuster

Sareee opens up about being ruled out of the ongoing Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.
As reported previously, the Japanese wrestler was replaced by Maya World in her scheduled first-round bout against Skye Blue at Dynamite: Summer Blockbuster due to a neck injury.
Speaking to BBM Japan, Sareee revealed that while she was given medical clearance in Japan, their US counterparts were “cautious” given that it was a neck injury. Though she is frustrated at not being able to compete on AEW television, Sareee claimed she has no regrets.
“Regarding the condition of my neck, I had received clearance from a doctor in Japan to compete. However, the American side was very cautious, given that the injury was to my neck. To be honest, I can’t say I’m 100% ready. But I believe opportunities aren’t meant to be waited for—they’re meant to be seized. While I feel frustrated that I ultimately couldn’t compete, I have no regrets. I believe there was meaning in the fact that I made my own decision and took action at that moment.”
On Maya World replacing her
Ahead of this Wednesday’s event, the Japanese wrestler said that Takumi Irohi would replace her in the Owen Cup bout. However, that wasn’t the case, as AEW boss Tony Khan announced Maya World as her replacement. However, she isn’t upset with that, as she believes that AEW is full of “hungry wrestlers” like Maya World, who have dedicated themselves to pro wrestling.
She said:
“I am also truly grateful to Takumi Iroha, who accompanied me as a substitute and support. Although I didn’t end up competing in the tournament as a substitute, AEW is full of hungry wrestlers eager to seize their chances, and the competition is fierce on a daily basis. Maya, who competed as a substitute this time, has also faced a terrible tragedy—the sudden loss of a family member—yet she continues to dedicate herself to pro wrestling. I believe AEW also wanted to give opportunities to wrestlers who keep moving forward and giving their all, even in such difficult circumstances.”
In this week’s issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (WON), Dave Meltzer revealed original Owen Hart Cup plans for Sareee. You can check out the report HERE.
411Mania wishes Sareee a speedy return to in-ring competition.
