In an interview with The Ringer, Shawn Michaels spoke about how he’s still learning things even after being in the business for forty years. Michaels is currently the head of creative for NXT. Here are highlights:

On pioneering several WWE match types: “I guess I always took pride in the fact that I was always the guinea pig—to see how some of these matches, these new ideas, these new, creative thoughts would work.”

On his thoughts of seeing the Hell in a Cell for the first time: “I can remember walking into St. Louis, seeing this unbelievable structure that they had built, and I thought to myself, ‘Oh, it would look like a playground.’ The first thing that I said is, ‘I got to get on top.’”

On wrestling the Undertaker: “[The Undertaker] and I had great chemistry every time we were in the ring with each other. I feel like that’s exactly what we delivered that night, and not having any idea that it would become a regular part of something that would stand the test of time in the WWE.”

On still learning: “Everybody thinks they know it all in this business. I can tell you, I’m 59 years old. I’ve been doing this for 40 years, and I learn stuff every day. And if you’re not learning, you’re not growing.”
