TCW Show 13-36 Recap and Review

TCW Tag Team Championship Match – Hounds of Hell (c) vs. Genetic Perfection

Hounds of Hell rush to the ring and try to get the upper hand. Alan Steel knocks out Cerebus and helps out his partner Michael Barry. Double back body drop onto Roosevelt before Genetic Perfection shove Cerebus off the apron onto the guardrail. Roosevelt dodges an attack from Barry and is handed a can of pop from Cerebus. Roosevelt uses the can, smashing it against Barry’s skull! Barry is taken to the corner, where he is taken down with a pair of chops from Hounds of Hell. Cerebus slams Barry onto the mat before tagging in his parter. Double back elbow to Barry before the hounds bite down on the helpless Barry. Match is under control as Roosevelt focuses his attack on Barry’s back before going for more cheap shots. Barry trying to fight back with strikes. High crossbody from Roosevelt stops the match, but Cerebus gets the tag first. Steel gets a tag as well, and he knocks the heads of the hounds together. Roosevelt goes down, but it does not effect Cerebus. Steel dodges an attack from Cerebus and climbs the ropes, hitting him with a flying back elbow. Roosevelt charges, but Steel plants him with a spinebuster. Cerebus breaks up a pin attempt and sends Steel to the outside.

Commercial break

Cerebus has Steel on his shoulders, and Roosevelt goes to the top. Barry makes the save, shoving Roosevelt to the floor. Steel gets a backslide, but Cerebus escapes and hits Steel with a big boot! Roosevelt back in the ring, and he grabs Barry, holding him for Cerebus. He charges, but hits his partner Roosevelt. Barry lifts up Cerebus and nails a powerslam. Steel goes up and nails a splash. Steel goes for a covers, but Kincaid comes out or the save.
Winner via DQ – Genetic Perfection

The Bradford Family commence a brutal attack on Genetic Perfection. Kincaid and Boyd Bradford tie Michael Barry to the ring post. Cerebus and Roosevelt strip Rich Rude of his clothes and make sure he is out of commission. Hounds of Hell hold up Rude, as Kincaid goes to the top. Double stomp to Rude! Rude is bleeding from the mouth. Several refs are coming out to the ring. Roosevelt finds a table and sets it up on the outside. Crowd chants for Matt Hardy. Kincaid and Roosevelt put Steel on the table as Cerebus climbs the ropes. Refs try to block the way, but Cerebus flies and slams Steel through the table! Barry is stuck and forced to watch before Cerebus whips him with a belt. The Bradford family poses in the ring before leaving the area.

Match itself is decent, even though it was short. All four of these guys have had great matches in this promotion, so it was a bit of a let down to see this one end so prematurely. These two teams are arguably the two best tag teams in TCW so it should be obvious that a rivalry would begin. It seems the seed was planted back at the Rumble Riot, and now that Michael Barry is back, we’ll see where it goes from here. Not sure what the plan in, considering that Steel was sent through a table, which is the same way Barry was ‘forced’ to retire.

Match #2 – The Empire vs. Americos and Matt Hardy

(For this match, I’ll be referring to Greg Anthony and Steve Anthony by their first names)
Greg tries to attack Hardy, but is sent to the outside. Americos dropkicks Steve and sends him to the outside as well. Greg runs to his side of the ring and manages to hits Americos. Steve sends Americos shoulder first to the steel steps. Both back in the ring as Steve stomps at Americos. Steve picks up Americos and knocks the wind out of him with kicks to the chest. Tag to Greg, who whips Americos to the ropes. Americos dodges and gets a cross body. Americos trying to get the tag, but Greg drags him away and tags in Steve. Steve with a chinlock

Commercial break

Steve plants Americos with a belly to back suplex. Steve mounts Americos and pounds him with strikes. Greg gets tagged in, who knee drops Americos right in the head. Greg gets a cheap shot to Hardy, who tries to roll in. Empire takes advantage of the ref distraction. Americos stuck in the corner of the Empire. Americos tries to fight and roll to the corner, but Steve grabs the boot and Greg grounds him with an elbow drop. Greg hits a scoop slam and climbs the turnbuckle. He mocks Hardy and leaps, but Americos gets the boots up and tags in Hardy, who knocks down both members of the Empire. Hardy bulldogs Greg while clotheslining Steve at the same time. Hardy goes up and hits an elbow to Greg. Hardy plants Greg with a Side Effect and goes for a pin. Steve makes the save and goes after Americos, but Steve is sent to the outside. Hardy on his knees, providing a platform for Americos. The Empire is wiped out on the outside, and Greg is rolled into Hardy, who nails the Twist of Fate! Americos goes tot he top and hits the Swanton Bomb! 1..2..3!
Winner via pinfall – Americos and Matt Hardy

Another match that was on the shorter side. Hardy did not get a lot of offense, and was only the legal member of his team for the final few minutes of the match. Americos is always fun to watch, but did not show me anything new from last week to this week. Him and Steve Anthony have been fighting quite a bit lately, so it would be nice to see them battle one more time for the rubber match. No problems with this match, although it seemed the teams changed sides as Americos was tagged in while he was in the Empire’s corner. Bit of a technical flub up, but nothing to complain about.

Backstage we get a promo from Scott Phoenix, the TCW Heavyweight Champion. Basic stuff, but good.

TCW Heavyweight Championship Triple Threat: Scott Phoenix (c) vs. Sigmon vs. Tim Storm

Phoenix poses with the belt, but Sigmon attacks and sends Phoenix to the outside. Storm knocks down Sigmon, but he fights back. Phoenix climbs the top and nails a crossbody on Sigmon. Storm and Phoenix double team Sigmon with a double suplex. Storm and Phoenix shake hands before locking up. Storm gets Phoenix in a head lock. Sigmon tries to attack, but is met with a boot from Phoenix. Sigmon charges again, but Storm and Phoenix send him to the outside. Fast pace mat wrestling from Storm and Phoenix until Phoenix slows it down with a dropkick. Phoenix goes to the ropes, but Sigmon trips him up. Storm charges, but Sigmon lowers the ropes. Sigmon attacks Phoenix, sending him intot he ropes hard. Sigmon hits a snap suplex and gets a quick two count. Sigmon locks in the Winner’s Circle, but Storm saves the match and nails Sigmon with a full nelson bomb.

Commercial break

Sigmon tries a crossbody, but is caught by Storm. Phoenix drop kicks Sigmon’s back, sending both of his opponents to the mat. Sigmon gets stuck between Storm and Phoenix, who chop at Sigmon’s chest. Storm and Phoenix both go for a pin and give each other a stare down. Sigmon fights back with headbutts before taking down Storm with a beautiful enziguri. Sigmon taunts the down competitors and goes to the top. Storm stands up and goes for a superplex, but Sigmon fights. Phoenix gets under Storm and powerbombs Storm. Sigmon takes a rough landing from the superplex. Phoenix covers Storm, but only gets a two count. Storm picks up Phoenix, and they trade strikes before Phoenix nails him with a neckbreaker. Sigmon gets up, but is met with a scoop driver from Phoenix. Phoenix with the pin attempt. 1…2…no! Storm tries to attack, but Phoenix doubles him over and hits a running neckbreaker. Sigmon up again and hits a German suplex with a bridge. 1…2…Phoenix kicks out! Storm nails Sigmon with a big boot and covers him. Still not enough for the win. Storm hits Phoenix with a boot to the head, and lands a neckbreaker afterwards. Sigmon taunts once again before going to the top. Flying headbutt hits nothing! Phoenix leaps on the rope and nails a flying kick! Sigmon walks into the Perfect Storm! Sigmon rolls out of the ring. Mat Riviera out with a steel chair. He passes it to Storm, who smashes it against Phoenix’s skull! 1…2…3!
Winner and new TCW Heavyweight Champion – Tim Storm

I’m not sure how I feel about this match. Overall, it is a very good triple threat match and seeing Sigmon fighting against the two faces was fun. Only problem wrestling wise was the scary landing of Sigmon during the superplex. My main problem is that Storm won the title. The Rumble Riot is one of TCW’s biggest events, and Phoenix had a great match against Hoyt to win the title. In his first defense, he lost the title to Storm with the help of Matt Rivera. It feels like this is slowly becoming the Matt Rivera show, where he needs to be involved with everything that happens on the show. That being said, I enjoyed the match, just not the storyline that it is building to.

The Empire comes out and celebrate with Tim Storm. Storm has seemed to join his old rival Riviera and turned his back on the TCW fans. The Empire poses in the ring as we end this week’s episode.

The 411: Overall, the wrestling is very good on this week's show. I really enjoyed the main event triple threat, but the end of the show left a bad taste in my mouth. I will say it does make me anxious to see the next installment of TCW. The only problem with this week's show (beyond Storm winning and joining the Empire) is that the matches were pretty short, especially for all them being main event caliber matches. A lot of this show was filled with replays of what happened on previous shows, a bit of a downer.
