Tommaso Ciampa made his AEW debut several days later than was originally planned, according to a new report. Ciampa made his debut for AEW on the January 28th episode of Dynamite, as he came out to confront Mark Briscoe. Fightful Select reports that the debut was originally supposed to take place on the January 24th episode of AEW Collision.
According to the report, Ciampa was originally going to debut on the Saturday show. However, the company ended up needing to tape that episode of Collision during the January 21st AEW Dynamite taping due to heavy winter weather concerns for Dallas, Texas that Saturday. The original plan, according to sources, was to have Ciampa’s debut take place on Collision.
Ciampa was not moved to the alumni section of WWE’s roster page until January 28th, and the report notes that this was several days after he had agreed to terms on an AEW deal and planned to join the company. The report notes that Ciampa was “well hidden” up until then.
Ciampa defeated Briscoe in his debut match to capture the TNT Championship. He then lost the title to Kyle Fletcher soon after. Fletcher defended the title against Briscoe at AEW Grand Slam Australia.
