Backstage Details on Tony Khan Wanting AEW Dynamite To Have No PPV Promotion Following PAC’s Death

AEW President Tony Khan reportedly removed regular promotional material from the September 30 episode of Dynamite following PAC’s death.
According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Khan wanted the broadcast to focus entirely on PAC, whose real name was Benjamin Satterley.
PAC died at age 40 on September 27, shortly after competing at All Out. AEW officially presented the show as “A Tribute to PAC” on the following Wednesday (September 30). The broadcast featured matches, video packages, and personal thoughts from AEW wrestlers about their late colleague.
Meltzer noted that much of AEW’s original plans for AEW Dynamite were reportedly altered. That meant no promotion for AEW’s upcoming pay-per-view and Collision, and no angle for the shows. He also reported that “pretty much” everything on the Tribute was redone and “not planned to be on the show” (via WrestlingInc).
“He made the call to do no promotion, no angles for the pay-per-view. No promotion on the pay-per-view. No promotion for ‘Collision’ on Saturday. I don’t think he even mentioned a match for Saturday. Pretty much everything that was on the show was not planned to be on the show. That was all redone. So I believe what he had planned for the show is stuff that will be on ‘Collision’ Saturday and in France on Tuesday and they have to essentially speed everything up.”
AEW’s next major programming is scheduled for Paris, France, as part of AEW Grand Slam France on October 6. This week’s Dynamite and Collision will be held in Paris.
