Triple H on When He Fully Took Over WWE Creative: “There Is No Clear Moment for Me”

Paul “Triple H” Levesque recently commented on his ascent to the creative head position on WWE’s main roster.
Triple H was named WWE’s Chief Content Officer in September 2022 after Vince McMahon “retired” amid sexual misconduct allegations during the summer of 2022. However, the former WWE boss returned to the company in January 2023 to facilitate the company’s sale
McMahon finally resigned from his position in WWE and TKO in early 2024 after Janel Grant’s lawsuit against him and the company came to the fore.
During a recent appearance on What Do You Wanna Talk About? Podcast host Cody Rhodes asked Triple H whether he considers WrestleMania 40 to be the first ‘Mania where he was fully in charge of the WWE creative.
The Game said that the transition was a gradual process and that there was “no clear moment” in his mind where he felt he became the creative head. However, he does consider ‘Mania 40 as that moment when he truly took over the creative.
“I think so. Though there was, and again, this is where I’m terrible with times, but it’s not like one day, ‘Here, it’s yours!’ and everything else went away. There were so many aspects to that of, ‘Hey, Vince is stepping away. You’re going to take this spot, but he’s chiming in.’ And he was still meeting with me all the time and still, you know, directing traffic from the sides. And there’s no real, it’s a weird, no real clear moment for me. But I would consider it that, yes,” Triple H said.
Triple H details the most difficult part of the transition period
According to Levesque, the most difficult aspect of the transition period was taking accountability for decisions that weren’t fully his.
“At the end of the day, when people are like, ‘Yeah, but it’s your decision, right?’ Yeah, sort of. You know what I mean? Like you’re, yes, and you have to defend your position, and you have to be able to sell that to people and explain it to people. If it’s a little bit not your position or a little bit, ‘Well, why did this happen?’ And you don’t want to say, ‘Well, because, you know, it wasn’t totally my decision.’”
