The Undertaker recently looked back on his work with Shawn Michaels, praising his longtime rival for his versatility in in the ring. The two Attitude Era stars had a storied rivalry that included their back to back matches at WrestleMania 25 and 26, the latter of which was Michaels’ retirement match.

Taker spoke about working with Michaels in his appearance on What Do You Wanna Talk About? with Cody Rhodes. The Dead Man spoke about how easy it was to work with Michaels and how much he loved Michaels’ ability to “come to dukes” when it was time in the ring. You can see highlights below:

On Michaels’ Versatility:

“Oh man. Shawn was amazing on so many levels. I think he was before his time in what he could do athletically, but that was only a small part of what Shawn did. What I always loved about Shawn is — again, he could bump and sell and do all this pretty s**t. But at one moment, at the right time in a match when it comes to dukes, right? It should always — to me it boils down, you can do all the flying headscissors and all these other things.

“But when it gets down, it gets to a point in the match where it comes down to dukes and fighting, right? And regardless of how outsized he was or who he was in the ring with, when it came down, you believed him.”

On Michaels’ Fighting Spirit:

“That’s a gift to have. Because a lot of people, you don’t — it’s like, ‘Ehh… stick to the high flying stuff.’ But Shawn had that thing in him. That dog, I guess is what you [say], he had that dog in him. That look in his eye that you’re talking about. It was like, ‘Hey, we gotta go to dukes? We’re gonna go to dukes.’ And I tell you, there’s probably no one that I’d rather work with than him. Talking about chemistry and all that, man. I could have a match with him — well not now. But when we were going, I could have a match with him and just like — it’s so easy.”
