Backstage Note On Johnny Gargano’s WWE Contract Status

There has been some fan speculation about Johnny Gargano’s WWE status, and a new report has an update on the matter. Fans have been speculating about the Smackdown star’s status since Tommaso Ciampa exited WWE in late January. Gargano and Ciampa were regularly associated with each other in WWE, either as rivals or opponents, and it led some to believe that he might be exiting as well.

According to Fightful Select’s Debunkathon, they have inquired a number of times about Gargano and have been told simply that he is “firmly under contract” with WWE. The report does not provide details on how long he may be under contract for — much less if he will stay — simply that he is under a deal as of now.

Gargano has been running a storyline on Smackdown where he’s been depressed since he lost Axiom’s mask. He was convinced to come out to the ring and lay out an open challenge, which was answered by Oba Femi. Femi beat Gargano in a squash match in short order.

No word on what the plans are for Gargano going forward. He is not currently advertised for tonight’s episode of Smackdown which takes place from the the Mortgage Matchup Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
