Visual Concepts has been hit by layoffs, and a new report notes that the WWE 2K team was hit the hardest within the company. It was reported by GameDeveloper.com that the company, best known for developing sports games in the 2K franchise, conducted a round of layoffs. Insider Gaming reports that while the layoffs are company-wide, they have hit the WWE development team more heavily than NBA 2K.
The report notes that the layoffs hit both the WWE 2K team and the team that worked on WWE 2K25: Netflix Edition. It’s not clesar how many people were laid off, though multiple sources siad that “it wasn’t insignificant.”
The report notes that while WWE 2K25: Netflix Edition did well in terms of reviews and downloads, sources in Netflix said that the people in charge didn’t feel that the game met expectations. One source noted, “They expected it to be something it was never designed to be: a mobile game.” Netflix has chosen not to renew its deal in order to have Netflix Editions of WWE 2K26 or WWE 2K27.
Another source said that while management at Take-Two gave promises, “Leadership lied the whole time, saying the game was fine and great.”
The Netflix edition of WWE 2K25 released in November of last year.
