Will Ospreay achieved his dream of winning the AEW World Title on British soil at AEW All In, and he spoke after about the stress leading up to the match. Ospreay defeated Kenny Omega in a war during the main event of the PPV, becoming the first British wrestler to win a world title on home soil.
Ospreay was asked during the post-show media scrum about the days leading up to the PPV. He noted that it was very stressful and he felt the pressure of what he was about to do, feels proud to have accomplished it. You can see highlights below:
On How the Week Has Been For Him:
“Honestly, very stressful. Just because I’ve put so much pressure on myself to get to this moment. Of course like, the main mission when I first started wrestling is, I wanted to be a World Champion. But you could never dream this scenario or this situation. I’ve grown up watching so many amazing British wrestlers throughout my time, and not one of them ever won a major championship on home soil. And I think about all the times I would do gigs like Southside and PROGRESS, and RevPro, and so many indies up and down the country. I always thought like, ‘This generally makes me happy, being in the ring getting to perform.’ I never really did it for money. I just did it because I love doing it. And I never imagined when I started doing this that I would even be considered to be the guy that brings a World Championship home to his home country.”
On Representing British Wrestling:
“I’ve been so lucky to fly the flag in Korakuen Hall, in Tokyo Dome, in Madison Square Garden. I’ve always called myself a British wrestler. I am BritWres, in my opinion. And it’s just truly, just like a mindblowing experience, knowing I got to share the ring with the greatest wrestler of our generation in the most iconic stadium in the UK. I brought home the most important prize in pro wrestling. It means a world.”
