Backstage Update on WWE Publicly Blocking Logan Paul’s Open Challenge to NFL Players for Boxing Match

As previously reported, WWE Superstar Logan Paul recently took his feud with NFL players to the next level when he issued an open challenge for a boxing match. According to the challenge, both he and the NFL player who agrees to step up would put $1 million on the line in a winner-takes-all match.
However, he had to backtrack from his challenge after receiving a call from someone at WWE named “Chris” during his recent appearance on the Happy Punch podcast. The person informed Paul that he’s not allowed to box any NFL player, as the company doesn’t want him injured this close to WrestleMania 42. When Paul protested, Chris informed him that he isn’t allowed to fight, as he is a full-time WWE Superstar.
Dave Meltzer commented on the situation in this week’s iteration of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (WON). Meltzer claimed that he was told by a couple of WWE sources that Logan Paul started this as a publicity stunt and that the promotion was not involved in it.
Meltzer further claimed that it was WWE’s Executive Vice President of Talent Relations & Head of Communications, Chris Legentil, who called Logan and informed him that the company wouldn’t allow him to fight an NFL player in a boxing match due to his obligations as a full-time talent and the risk of injuries ahead of WrestleMania 42.
One source, per Meltzer, noted that while the conversation between Legentil and Paul was staged, the reasons provided to The Vision member as to why he can’t participate in the fight were legit.
The report further noted that since the potential fight between Paul and former NFL player Le’Veon Bell had garnered a lot of attention, the call was done publicly to explain to Paul why he couldn’t do the fight. This is precisely why there was no mention of it from Paul or the commentary team on this week’s RAW.
