WWE Releases Official Statement In Response To Last Week Tonight Piece, Claims John Oliver Ignored Facts

Perhaps the biggest story from last night is that Last Week Tonight ran a story on WWE, with John Oliver targeting the company for calling its talent independent contractors and not taking very good care of them health-wise. Multiple wrestling personalities have praised the piece, including Jim Cornette and CM Punk, but WWE was not amused. The company has released an official statement on the matter, claiming Oliver ignored facts. They also invited him to attend Wrestlemania this Sunday.
The statement reads: “John Oliver is clearly a clever and humorous entertainer, however the subject matter covered in his WWE segment is no laughing matter.
Prior to airing, WWE responded to his producers refuting every point in his one-sided presentation. John Oliver simply ignored the facts.
The health and wellness of our performers is the single most important aspect of our business, and we have a comprehensive, longstanding Talent Wellness program.
We invite John Oliver to attend WrestleMania this Sunday to learn more about our company.“
