During a recent interview with Fightful’s In the Weeds, NJPW star and IWGP Heavyweight Champion Yota Tsuji addressed recent comments by Callum Newman questioning “The New Era of Strong Style.” Below are some highlights from Fightful:

Yota Tsuji on Callum Newman Questioning the New Era of Strong Style

“So I honestly appreciate that, you know, the guys like Callum Newman, who does all kinds of athletic moves, kind of questions, you know, the recent kind of movement in the New Japan roster that we are kind of, going towards more of the traditional moves, rather than these acrobatic, athletic moves. I think he is just like everybody else in the New Japan roster, they have they each have a unique fighting style to express themselves and but all the goals we have is to have a win. So I can’t question myself as well as what strong style is, and I don’t think anyone can have the definite answer of what it is, including myself.”

On What Strong Style Truly Is

“But for sure, the idea is that you have to win in the end, and the pro wrestling that we do is as simple as that. that the winner takes all. So whatever it takes to have secured win, I think that should be what strong style is. So I accept the Newman’s comment and I understand why he’s saying that, but you know, that’s what it is, and I think it’s good to have everybody’s own unique style, just all going to try and secure the win is what the New Japan Pro Wrestling is.”

Yota Tsuji was in action at today’s NJPW Power Struggle event. He competed in a Triple Threat bout against AEW star Kenny Omega and Oleg Boltin. Omega was victorious, clinching a title shot against Tsuji at Wrestle Kingdom 21 in January at the Tokyo Dome.

Also during the card, Callum Newman and Will Ospreay were unable to win the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Titles since the match ended in a disqualification. The acrimony between the United Empire members erupted, and they fought each other before their teammates could break it up. Newman then challenged Ospreay to a match at Wrestle Kingdom.
