ZeeWI: Adios, Señor Benjamin?

September 11, 2016 | Posted by Dino Zee

It was weeks in the making, two of TNA’s most dangerous entities finally doing battle. Delete or Decay was the nice tag that marketing gave it, but everyone in the locker room knew that, with this collision, there was the very real possibility that things would go too far.

It started with Rosemary, the leader of Decay, the one that had managed to charm Abyss and Crazzy Steve into following her twisted tales. She was the one that gave Steve his voice, and who convinced Abyss to follow his naturally beautiful heart, and unleash the monster he always knew himself to be. They had managed, together, to completely humiliate and emasculate Bram, the man that once referred to himself as The Human Nightmare. He fell for Rosemary’s allure, until he was just a doting guy looking for a kiss. And when he was nothing more than your usual guy, he was assaulted, beaten badly, and kidnapped. Bram hasn’t been seen since. And, it bears mentioning, there was no punishment handed down by TNA Management for this incident.

Decay had recently decided that they wanted more, and this sent waves so strong through the universe, that Broken Matt Hardy was struck by a mysterious premoneeeeetion informing him that his family was no longer safe – Decay was coming for them.

Matt would send Reby and King Maxell away from the Compound, but this quick (and smart) initial fear would quickly give way to his continuing descent into total madness. Believing himself to be invincible, Matt would begin to openly goad Decay, going so far as to abandon his wife and son to the care of a drone and a dear, dear gardener while he and Brother Nero would enter the Zone of Impact to do battle with the Crazzy One himself, Steve.

The mistake would be revealed once the battle between two of TNA’s most sadistic competitors came to an end, as Steve would tell Matt the obvious fact – this match was a setup, and Rosemary and Abyss were at the house.

Luckily, Matt and Brother Nero did not return to the Compound to find a crying wife and a kidnapped baby. Reby and Señor Benjamin were able to protect The King, but it was obvious that things couldn’t continue like this for much longer. And, it bears mentioning, there was no punishment handed down by TNA Management for this home invasion and attempted kidnapping.

In The Final Deletion, we had seen just how dastardly this Broken version of Matt Hardy could become. He assaulted his brother constantly, bombarding him with a varitable cornucopia of pyrotechnics, amongst many other weapons. Still, TNA was willing to send four of its most imporant wrestlers into a match where all of them suffering career ending injuries was possible, because whether it’s Dixie or Billy, one thing is constant: attention matters more than safety.

Broken Matt and Brother Nero were fine with the match, of course. Their family had been threatened! And, of course, both are batshit crazy, if I may. A man that pulls a fan out of the audience and bites his face- a man that would then repeat this style of attack on various wrestlers in the ensuing weeks- is not a man that I expect to suddenly fear a match of his own creation on his own home turf, regardless of how dangerous that match may be.

And Decay? Well, Rosemary just kept singing her song, and Steve and Abyss believed that there was nothing the Broken Hardys could bring to the table that would actually lead to anything resembling a victory. Besides, Abyss was hardly a stranger to this kind of environment. He had tacks, barbed wire… Janice, always ready to assist him when he needed it. He had no reason to be afraid of two men he had wrestled countless times, regardless of their mental state. And anyways, Broken Matt and Brother Nero may be crazy, but they ain’t crazzy.

The Broken Hardys looked to return to their primal roots, doing battle with wild beasts. And, oddly enough, that wouldn’t even be nearly enough to prepare them for Decay or Delete.

Decay would storm the grounds immediately, only to realize that Brother Nero, Broken Matt and Reby were loaded to the gills with Roman Candles. They would chase Decay down, forcing the Demonic Trio to take refuge in a boat of dilapidation. The screeching continued as firework after firework was shot in their general direction. Abyss would manage to use the boat as a shield, and as a distraction that allowed Steve and Rosemary to break off towards the house.

Brother Nero would lay it on the line, laying out with a perfect dropkick to send Abyss into the murky waters behind him. The Human Angel, Señor Benjamin, would inform Nero that the house was being invaded. As Nero went to work, Joseph Park appeared out of the pond! Unfortunately, Benjamin was in no mood for strangers, and the devoted empoloyee would incapacitate Park with some electrotherapy.

Meawhile, Crazzy Steve and Brother Nero battled at poolside. Showing a complete lack of regard for the dangers of wrestling on a wet surface, Steve would hit facebreaker into the pool. Luckily, no one broke their neck on the landing. Nero and Steve would attempt to drown each other, taking this entire rivalry way too far. All the while, a TNA cameraman sat, filming it all, never once trying to help.

As the two continued their fight in the pool, Bejamin would attempt to bury Joseph Park’s body. But it would be Abyss who popped out of the casket, attacking the gardener. What happened to Joseph? No one knows.

We’d finally catch up with Matt Hardy, who had managed to corner Rosemary. But Abyss would come to her aid, and attempt to take Matt out with the help of Janice. And that was when we got a glimpse of how far things had truly gone.

As I have spoken about for weeks, I feared this moment. The moment where TNA’s constant acquiescence to Matt Hardy would cost them big. And Brother Nero, now believing himself only worthy in his ability to serve his brother, went for broke. Janice dug her nails into his guts, and he felt the blood flow, dropping to the ground. As Matt noted, it was so… unselfish of him.

Now down his obsolete mule, Matt grew desperate. Appearing ready to sink his teeth into anything that moved, he’d instead be saved by Vanguard 1, who unloaded another round of missiles towards Decay, igniting the very earth below.

Somehow, Rosemary had managed to grab King Maxell in the madness, and a misting of Vanguard 1 allowed a further escape. But she had allowed King Maxell to roam freely, and when Matt Hardy found her, he showed just how far he has progressed in his new Broken Brilliance.

In all my years covering this sport, I’d never seen anything like it. Completely impervious to Rosemary’s mist, he would devour it, and then return that very same fire to the gun that shot it, taking Rosemary out. Matt was victorious. Brother Nero appeared to be okay.

But Señor Benjamin… he may have been the casualty that will end up hurting the most. As we’re not sure of his status as of this writing, I can’t fully blame TNA for his fate. Hopefully we’ll get better news come Thursday. But the very idea that a loyal gardener- and a damn good one, at that- could ever be put in the line of fire of a wrestling feud… TNA Management is going to have to take a long, hard look at itself, and figure out how to get control in this wasteland where talented wrestlers are harassed and assaulted and kidnapped without anything ever happening.

Señor Benjamin should have been protected. Whether it was by Broken Matt, or by TNA hiring security, in no way was this feud his. He protected the home from invaders, sure, but he was never at war with Decay. That Abyss – or anyone – could possibly have directly led to his downfall, and again, while a TNA Cameraman filmed (and oddly stopped filming during the important parts) is sickening. It stinks of a cover up. Again, at this point, I can only hope that Benjamin made it out as all right as can be hoped.

Remember Señor Benjamin.
