Zelina Vega Aiming to Bring Out ‘More Real Version’ of Herself With New In-Ring Name

Zelina Vega opens up about her new in-ring name. Vega was one of the many wrestlers who were released from WWE as part of its annual post-WrestleMania budget cuts this past April.

Last month, she filed a trademark for “Xelina” and subsequently confirmed this would be her in-ring name moving forward. Speaking to Denise Salcedo recently, Zelina opened up about her new name. The former Women’s US Champion said that she intends to bring out her “more real version” to fans with her new name while retaining the “Zelina factor.” Here’s what she said:

On the Reasons Behind Her New Xelina Name Change

“I wanted to keep the Zelina factor to it because when you see the Funko Pop and how big Puerto Rico was, I still want to keep that, and people know it’s still me regardless of what company I’m with. It’s also shedding the skin. I’m shedding that skin and bringing a more real version of myself to people.”

On Means With a ‘More Real Version’ of Herself

“That means no more handcuffs. No more, ‘Your promos are so great, but they can’t be better than this person. You want to make sure you do this, talk like this, don’t say this.’ Now, there are no chains and no nothing. I want people to see what I actually can do, and I’m trying to behave.”
