Suzuki-gun (Davey Boy Smith Jr., Lance Archer, El Desperado, and Taka Michinoku) w/Taichi vs. Satoshi Kojima, Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Tiger Mask IV, and Ryusuke Taguchi
Suzuki-gun attacks to start but TenKoji send the KES into each other. Everyone brawls on the floor and in the ring, Tiger Mask hits a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker on Desperado. Taka hits a corner knee strike to Tiger Mask and Desperado hits a cannonball into the corner for 2. Tag to Archer and he slams Tiger Mask. KES overpower Tiger Mask and hit a legdrop/big splash combo for 2 as Kojima saves. Saito suplex by Smith Jr. gets 2 as Taguchi saves. Spin kick by Tiger Mask and Kojima tags in. Rapid chops in the corner by Kojima and he hits a corner forearm. Kojima goes up and he hits a diving elbow for 2. They trade forearms and Kojima hits a rolling elbow. Tenzan goes up and hits the standing knee drop off the top. Double clothesline by Archer and he throws shoulder chops at Tenzan. Spinning heel kick by Tenzan and Kojima hits an Ace Crusher on Smith Jr. Tag to Taguchi and he goes for a springboard crossbody but Smith Jr. catches and slams him. Suzuki-gun charge at Taguchi in the corner and Taka hits Shining Wizard for 2 as Kojima saves. 3D on Smith Jr. by TenKoji and Taguchi hits a springboard dropkick on Taka. Leg lariat by Taka but Taguchi comes back with an enzuigiri. Dodon by Taguchi gets 3.
Winners- Satoshi Kojima, Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Tiger Mask IV, and Ryusuke Taguchi ** ( OK start to the show but it was too short to mean anything and everyone tried to pack all their stuff in at once so there was nothing to get invested in.)

Bullet Club (Bad Luck Fale, Doc Gallows, and Yujiro Takahashi) vs. Yuji Nagata, Manabu Nakanishi, and BUSHI
Gallows and Nakanishi start. They try to overpower each other to start and Gallows hits a big boot. He hammers Nakanishi on the mat and they trade chops. Slam by Gallows and he misses a big splash. Polish hammer by Nakanishi and he goes up. Missile dropkick by Nakanishi gets 2. Tag to BUSHI and Yujiro. Hurricanrana by BUSHI and Yujiro hot shots him to come back. On the floor, Yujiro sends BUSHI into the railings and he drops BUSHI onto the railings. Back in, Gallows presses BUSHI to the mat and hits some elbow drops. Tag to Fale and he goes for an Avalanche in the corner but misses. Tag to Nagata and he throws some kicks at Fale. Slap by Nagata and he dropkicks the leg of Fale. Exploder suplex to Gallows and he hits an overhead belly to belly suplex on Yujiro. Avalanche in the corner by Fale and he hits a big splash for 2. Nagata counters the Samoan Spike into the Fujiwara arm bar but Yujiro rakes the face to break that. Fale overpowers Nagata and BUSHI tags in along with Yujiro. Missile dropkick by BUSHI and he rolls Yujiro around the mat for 2. BUSHI charges in the corner but misses and Yujiro hits a Yakuza kick. BUSHI counters Tokyo Pimps into a backslide for 2 as the Bullet Club breaks. BUSHI blocks Miami Shine and Yujiro catches him with the Olympic Slam for 2. Buckle Bomb by Yujiro and he hits Miami Shine for 3.
Winners- Bullet Club **1/4 ( Again, OK match but there was a severe lack of energy and I didn’t see much effort outside of BUSHI and Nagata. We are not off to a hot start to this show.)

Suzuki-gun (Minoru Suzuki, Shelton X Benjamin, and Takashi Iizuka) w/Taka Michinoku vs. Kazushi Sakuraba, Toru Yano, and YOSHI-HASHI
Suzuki-gun attacks to start and they brawl on the floor. Back in, Benjamin works over YOSHI-HASHI in the corner. Stinger Splash misses and YOSHI-HASHI hits a corner clothesline. Standing blockbuster by YOSHI-HASHI and Suzuki hits a knee to the back before catches him in the cross arm breaker in the ropes. Iizuka chokes Yano on the floor and Suzuki brawls with YOSHI-HASHI on the baseball field. Back in, Benjamin slams YOSHI-HASHI and he presses him into a powerslam for 2. Tag to Iizuka and he dumps YOSHI-HASHI to the floor. Iizuka drives a chair into the midsection and back of YOSHI-HASHI. Back in, Iizuka rakes the face of YOSHI-HASHI and they battle for a suplex. YOSHI-HASHI catches Iizuka with a lariat and both men are down. Tag to Yano and he unties the turnbuckle in the corner. Iizuka chokes away on Yano and throws some head butts in the corner. Iizuka is sent into the exposed corner and Yano charges but misses and hits the exposed corner. Drop toe hold into the exposed corner by Yano and he does his pose so Iizuka attacks him from behind. They trade inverted atomic drops and Sakuraba tags in along with Suzuki. They trade slaps and strikes before grappling for position on the mat. Suzuki goes for the cross arm breaker but Sakuraba blocks and goes to the Grapevine. Suzuki escapes and grabs the sleeper but Yano breaks it up. Sakuraba catches Suzuki in a cross arm breaker but Suzuki makes the ropes to break. Knee to the midsection by Suzuki and he grabs a sleeper in the ropes. Suzuki tosses the ref away when he tries to break so the ref calls for the bell. Suzuki tries to apply the sleeper on young boys when they try to break him up and he leaves Sakuraba lying.
Winners by DQ- Kazushi Sakuraba, Toru Yano, and YOSHI-HASHI * ( This was total garbage. Just a lot of crappy brawling, no wrestling, and Sakuraba looks so phony in the ring it’s pathetic. Suzuki had some awesome performances in the G1 but it looks like he is back in the crappy feuds he had before which is a shame. )

Adam Cole and Michael Bennett w/Maria Kanellis vs. Captain New Japan and Jushin Liger
I’m very happy ROH is being showcased on a big show like this and hope is a sign of things to come. Cole and Liger start. They battle for control to start and we reach a standstill. Liger takes Cole down and goes to the rear surfboard before converting it into a roll-up for 2. Bennett and Captain tags in. Captain overpowers Bennett and Bennett bails. Bennett uses Maria as a shield and Maria gives Captain a FORCED MOTORBOAT!!!! Colt leaps off the apron and nails Captain from behind and back in, Bennett slams Captain. Second rope elbow drop misses and Cole hits a knee to the back of Captain. Bennett drop toe holds Captain into an enzuiguiri from the floor by Cole. Bennett stomps away and tags Cole. Suplex by Cole gets 2. Tag to Bennett and he hits a hard punch on Captain. Leg drop by Bennett gets 2 and Cole tags in. Rear chinlock by Cole but Captain goes to the ropes to break. Tag to Bennett and Captain misses a double clothesline. Tag to Cole and Captain begins to fight out of the heel corner. Flying shoulderblock on Cole and Liger tags in. Liger hits an open palm strike in the corner and puts Cole on top. Frankensteiner by Liger gets 2. Cole blocks the Brainbuster and he hits the enzuigiri. Shining Wizard by Cole gets 2. Liger goes up and leaps but Cole superkicks him on the way down for 2!!! Liger counters the Figure-4 into a small package for 2. They clothesline each other and both men are down. Tag to Captain and he overpowers Bennett. Spear by Bennett gets 2. Captain backdrops out of a piledriver attempt and he slams Bennett. Captain goes up and misses a diving head butt. Urinage by Captain gets 2. Maria distracts Captain, allowing Bennett to roll him up for 2. Clothesline by Bennett and he hits the piledriver for 3.
Winners- Adam Cole and Michael Bennett **3/4 ( Match was decent but it wasn’t the best showcase for either guy since they struggled against super jobber Captain New Japan and a past his prime Jushin Liger. Maria actually was the star of the match which is sad since this was supposed to be the big showcase for Cole and Bennett.)

IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championships- Time Splitters (Alex Shelley and KUSHIDA) © vs. reDragon (Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish)
KUSHIDA and O’Reilly start. They grapple to start before we reach a standstill. O’Reilly overpowers KUSHIDA and KUSHIDA comes back with a dropkick. Tag to Shelley and the Splitters take turns working the arm of O’Reilly. They throw stereo kicks at Fish as he comes in and Shelley goes back to the arm of O’Reilly. Capo kick by KUSHIDA knocks reDragon off the apron and the champs hit stereo slingshot pescados onto the challengers on the floor!!! Back in, the Splitter hit a double team cartwheel basement dropkick on O’Reilly for 2. O’Reilly finally bails but Shelley chases him back into the ring. reDragon throw kicks at Shelley and O’Reilly takes Shelley down by the shoulder. Tag to Fish and he hits a back suplex for 2. Snap mare and Fish hits a Hilo on Shelley for 2. O’Reilly takes Shelley down by the hair and Shelley snaps O’Reilly’s neck off the ropes to come back. Shelley goes for a slingshot splash but O’Reilly catches him in the cross arm breaker!!! Shelley makes the ropes to break. Tag to Fish and Shelley comes back with a hip toss. He goes for the tag but Fish knocked KUSHIDA off the apron. Enzuigiri by Shelley and KUSHUDA gets the tag. Springboard karate chop on O’Reilly and KUSHIDA cleans house. Enzuigiri from the apron by KUSHIDA and he springboards but O’Reilly nails him on the way down. Handspring back elbow by KUSHIDA on reDragon and the champs hit stereo baseball slides knocking reDragon onto the baseball field. KUSHIDA goes up and he dives onto everyone on the field!!!! Back in, the Splitters hit a standing moonsault/top rope splash combo on O’Reilly for 2. O’Reilly blocks Made in Detroit and he sweeps the legs of KUSHIDA. O’Reilly hits the shotgun dropkick off the apron onto Shelley on the floor!!! KUSHIDA goes up but O’Reilly stops him, allowing Fish to follow up. Super Falcon Arrow by Fish gets 2!!! Shelley saves KUSHIDA from Chasing the Dragon and the challengers charge at Shelley in the corner. Backbreaker/second rope knee drop combo by reDragon. Axe kick following by the rolling elbow by O’Reilly to KUSHIDA and he hits the Brainbuster for 2. Cross arm breaker by O’Reilly and Fish hits the flying head butt while KUSHIDA is in the hold!!! KUSHIDA counters into a roll-up for 2!!! Forearms by KUSHIDA but O’Reilly catches him with a flying knee. Guillotine Choke by O’Reilly but Shelley breaks with a double stomp!!! Enzuigiri by KUSHIDA to Fish and Shelley hits Sliced Bread #2. KUSHIDA tilt-a-whirls O’Reilly into the Kimura as Shelley dives onto Fish on the floor. O’Reilly taps!!!
Winners and Still IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Champions- Time Splitters **** ( Now this is more like it. Great match with fourteen minutes of non-stop crazy action that made reDragon look like stars in their NJPW debut. They finally got the crowd rocking and hopefully it carries over into the second half of the show.)

Jeff Jarrett and Scott D’Amore come out to sign a contract, officially establishing the relationship between NJPW and Global Force Wrestling, which still doesn’t exist. Jarrett thanks the crowd and hopes for a great, long relationship. Not much to this.

Tomoaki Honma vs. Tetsuya Naito
Honma is super over coming off his G1 run. Chops by Honma and Naito misses a dropkick. Dropping head butt misses and Naito stomps away. Hip toss by Honma and he overpowers Naito. Dropping head butt misses again and Naito hits a basement dropkick. Snap mare and Naito goes to the chinlock. He toys with Honma and he snap mares Honma into the standing summersault senton for 2. Chops by Honma and he hits a suplex on Naito. Chops by Honma and he hits the corner forearm. Bulldog by Honma and he hits the dropping head butt on the third attempt. Hanging neckbreaker by Naito and he goes up. Missile dropkick by Naito and he hits the slingshot basement dropkick. Naito puts Honma on top and he follows up. Honma comes out of the corner with a sit-out powerbomb and he hits the Brainbuster for 2!!! Honma goes up and he misses the diving head butt. They trade forearms and Naito slaps Honma. Leaping head butt by Honma and he goes for a slam but Naito escapes. Release German suplex by Naito and he goes for the flying forearm but Honma counters into the cradle for 2!!! Enzuigiri by Naito and he hits a German suplex for 2. Reverse DDT by Naito and he goes up. Stardust Press by Naito gets 3.
Winner- Tetsuya Naito ***1/2 ( Very good match. They hit their signature stuff and again, the crowd was electric for Honma’s near falls. I think this along with the Shibata match where the two biggest opportunities to obtain a special moment with a Honma win and here you could even fuel the fire to a potential Naito turn. But it was not to be but it was still a very good contest coming out of intermission.)

Karl Anderson w/Yujiro Takahashi vs. Tomohiro Ishii
Anderson attacks to start and he stomps away on the bad shoulder of Ishii. Bicycle kick to the shoulder of Ishii and he sends Ishii into the post, knocking him off the apron. Yujiro works Ishii over on the floor and back in, Anderson rakes the face of Ishii. Ishii’s nose is bloody now as Anderson continues to work over the injured shoulder. Slam by Anderson and he misses the back senton. Ishii charges in the corner but misses and Anderson hits a bicycle kick in the corner. Forearms by Anderson and this fires Ishii up. Forearm by Ishii knocks Anderson down. Anderson charges in the corner but misses and Ishii hits a release German suplex. He knocks Yujiro off the apron and he puts Anderson on top. Ishii follows up and they botch the delayed superplex in a very scary spot. Leg lariat by Anderson and he hits a sit-out powerbomb for 2. Ishii escapes the TKO and Anderson throws an uppercut. TKO by Anderson gets 2. Gun Stun is blocked and Ishii hits the Sliding D to the back of Anderson’s head. They trade forearms and Ishii blocks the Gun Stun again. Head butt by Ishii and he hits a lariat for 2!!! Brainbuster by Ishii gets 2 as Yujiro pulls the ref out of the ring!!! Yujiro hits a lariat on Ishii and he drives Ishii’s injured shoulder into the mat. YOSHI-HASHI comes out and he brawls with Yujiro. Lariat by YOSHI-HASHI and they go to the floor. Sick Kick by Anderson and he hits the Bernard Driver for 2!!! Gun Stun is blocked again so Anderson throws a head butt which has NO EFFECT!!! Ishii goes for the Brainbuster but Anderson counters into the Gun Stun for 3!!!
Winner- Karl Anderson ***1/2 ( The complaints about Ishii competing here were valid. His shoulder was in terrible shape and the superplex screw up was super scary and put Anderson at risk. He probably should have been replaced by someone like Nagata or Kojima but too little too late. The match was very good despite the shoulder issues as they worked around it well for the most part and got a good underdog story out of it. )

Katsuyori Shibata vs. Hirooki Goto
Shibata slaps Goto to start and Goto returns the favor. Forearms by Goto and Shibata fires back with his own. Big boot by Shibata and they charge at each other with forearms. Goto peppers Shibata with forearms in the corner and Shibata comes back with a Yakuza kick. Corner lariat by Goto but Shibata peppers Goto in the corner to come back. Spinning heel kick in the corner by Goto but Shibata throws a kick to the chest, knocking both men down. VICIOUS corner basement dropkick by Shibata but Goto comes back with a Saito suplex. Shibata comes back with a Saito suplex and then Goto returns one. They trade Saito suplexes and Shibata ends that with a Release German suplex. DVD backbreaker by Goto and he throws a knee to the chest, forcing Shibata to bail. Shibata rolls in the ring and rolls back out to give himself time to recover. Back in, Goto throws a kick to the chest and Shibata is hurting. Shibata catches Goto with the GTS and both men are down!!! Shibata covers for 2. Goto catches Shibata with Shouten Kai and both men are down again. Goto covers for 2. They trade forearms and Goto catches Shibata with a slap. Forearms by Goto but Shibata DRILLS him with a back fist!!! Goto blocks the Penalty Kick so Shibata slaps him. Head butt by Goto and he Ura Shouten for 1!!! Shibata escapes Shouten Kai and catches Goto in a sleeper. Goto fights out so Shibata hits a hard forearm. GTS by Shibata and he hits the Penalty Kick for 3!!! They carry each other to the back after the match.
Winner- Katsuyori Shibata ***3/4 ( I don’t know if Shibata really got hurt or not but the portion of him stalling drained the energy from what they initially built up a bit. This was a slow paced, methodical strike battle but it was still as vicious as you would expect from these two, so it was good time to be had.)

G1 Climax Third Place Match- AJ Styles w/Doc Gallows and Bad Luck Fale vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi
Tanahashi wants Styles to go it alone so he obliges, sending Gallows and Fale to the back. Crowd is hot for this one. Tanahashi overpowers Styles to start and they trade arm drags before reaching a stand still. Knee to the midsection by Styles and he charges in the corner but eats elbow. Springboard crossbody by Tanahashi and he goes for a powerbomb but Styles blocks and bails to the floor. Back in, Styles dropkicks Tanahashi. Backbreaker by Styles and he slams Tanahashi. Knee drop by Styles gets 2. Tanahashi fights back but he misses a splash in the corner. Styles crotches Tanahashi on the top rope and he shakes the ropes to further injure the groin of Tanahashi. Chinlock by Styles but Tanahashi fights out. Knee to the midsection by Styles and he goes for the springboard reverse DDT but Tanahashi blocks. Styles goes to springboard but Tanahashi blocks and knocks Styles all the way to the floor. Tanahashi follows and Styles rams Tanahashi into the railings. Tanahashi tries to send Styles into the railings but Styles leaps into the crowd so Tanahashi leaps into the crowd onto Styles!!! Both men beat the count back in and they trade forearms. Spin kick by Styles and Tanahashi comes back with Slingblade. Straight Jacket German suplex by Tanahashi gets 2. Slam by Tanahashi and he goes up. Styles crotches him and he goes for the Styles Clash but Tanahashi blocks. Hangman’s neckbreaker by Styles gets 2. Tanahashi blocks the Styles Clash and Styles hits the springboard forearm for 2. Jawbreaker by Tanahashi and Styles charges in the corner but misses. Styles throws strikes but Tanahashi catches him with the Dragon suplex for 2!!! Tanahashi goes up but Styles stops him and follows up. Tanahashi blocks the superplex and he fights Styles off. Styles goes up again and he hits the Frakensteiner. Styles goes for the Styles Clash but Tanahashi blocks so Styles drops him down almost on his head!!! Styles goes up and he goes for the Frog Splash but eats knees. Tanahashi goes up and goes for High Fly Flow but he eats knees!!!! They trade forearms and Tanahashi throws some strikes. Pele by Styles and he hits Bloody Sunday. Tanahashi counters the Styles Clash into the Victory roll for 3!!!
Winner- Hiroshi Tanahashi **** ( Great match. An excellent back and forth battle that lived up to the hype, with the crowd electric for everything and Styles finally being viewed at the level of Tanahashi in New Japan. The roll-up finish worked here since you shouldn’t expect Tanahashi to put away the champ easily and still makes Styles a threat in that Tanahashi has yet to put him away with his finisher. We are probably looking at a Styles/Tanahashi title match in the next few months now and I’m looking forward to it. )

After the match, the Bullet Club comes out and lay a beating on Tanahashi. Styles toys with Tanahashi and he hits the Styles Clash on him. Jeff Jarrett and Scott D’Amore come out with a guitar case and the Bullet Club bails. Jarrett helps Tanahashi out as Jarrett pulls out a BULLET CLUB GUITAR!!!! He creams Tanahashi with the guitar and Jarrett hugs Styles!!!! Jarrett and D’Amore reveal Bullet Club T-Shirts as Tanahashi is left lying in the middle of the ring. ( Jeff Jarrett being associated with the Bullet Club makes no sense. It doesn’t seem to have long term value and I already questioned the relationship with Global Force Wrestling to begin with as there is no sign the promotion is getting off the ground anytime soon. If this led to some sort of GFW/Bullet Club cross angle, then I’d be for this, but for NJPW’s long term plans this Jarrett thing makes absolutely no sense and it costs the Bullet Club’s cool aura they had. )

G1 Climax Finals-Kazuchika Okada w/Gedo vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
They battle for control to start and we reach a stand still. Nakamura maintains control on the mat and Okada backs into the ropes to force the break. DDT by Okada and he snap mares Nakamura into the basement dropkick. Nakamura bails and Okada follows out. Okada bends Nakamura against the railings and back in, Okada slams Nakamura. Hilo by Okada and he hits a neckbreaker for 1. Bow tie chin lock by Okada but Nakamura goes to the ropes to break. Okada charges in the corner but misses and they trade forearms. Nakamura throws a knee at Okada and hits the enzuigiri. Nakamura throws some knees in the corner and he goes for the Panic Attack but misses. Sick Kick by Nakamura gets 2. Nakamura puts Okada on top and he hits the running knee lift in the corner, knocking Okada all the way down to the floor. Running knee lift from the floor by Nakamura and he hits a guillotine knee drop on the apron. Back in, Nakamura throws a kick to the chest of Okada. Snap mare and Nakamura hits a knee drop for 2. Big boot by Okada but Nakamura throws a knee to the midsection before hitting a spinning heel kick. Nakamura charges in the corner but Okada catches him and puts him on top. Okada dropkicks Nakamura knocking Nakamura all the way down to the floor. Okada sends Nakamura into the railings and he hits a Yakuza kick knocking Nakamura into the front row. Okada hits the hanging DDT from the railings onto the floor. Back in, Okada slams Nakamura and he hits the flying elbow drop. Nakamura counters the Rainmaker into the lungblower. They trade forearms and Okada catches Nakamura with the flap jack. Nakamura catches Okada in the Rear Naked Choke and he converts it into the Triangle Choke. Okada tries to make the ropes so Nakamura pulls him into the cross arm breaker!!! Okada finally makes the ropes to break. Gordbuster by Nakamura and he throws some knees at Okada. Release back suplex by Nakamura and he goes for Boma Ye! but misses. Air Raid backbreaker by Okada and both men are down. Dropkick by Okada and he hits the DVD for 2. Nakamura blocks the Tombstone so Okada dropkicks him in the back. Tombstone by Okada and he goes for Rainmaker but NAKAMURA COUNTERS INTO THE CROSS ARM BREAKER!!!!! Okada STEPS ON NAKAMURA’S HEAD TO BREAK!!! Boma Ye! to the back of the head by Nakamura and both men are down again!!! They trade forearms and Nakamura wins that battle. Uppercuts by Okada and Nakamura throws a knee to the midsection. Dropkick by Okada and Nakamura collapses on the Irish whip attempt. Okada misses another dropkick and Nakamura hits Boma Ye! for 2!!! Nakamura goes to the second rope and hits the second rope flying knee strike. Okada catches Nakamura with a dropkick and both men are down again. German suplex by Okada gets 2 and Okada goes for the Rainmaker but Nakamura blocks with a knee!!! Okada blocks Boma Ye! so Nakamura punches him. Backslide by Okada gets 2 and he hits a lariat. A second lariat by Okada and he hits the Rainmaker for 3!!!
Winner- Kazuchika Okada ****1/2 ( Phenomenal match to close out this incredible tournament. They slowly built the match and as it progressed the action got much more intense and the crowd was totally along for the ride. The final five minutes were absolutely sensational and this was the cherry on top to this amazing G1 tournament. )

The 411: This is the only show of the G1 where you had to sit through a lot of crap to get to the good stuff. The first half of the show is garbage but everything after Time Splitter/reDragon was sensational and up there with some of the best stuff of the entire G1 tour. The finals blew away my expectations and Kazuchika Okada was deserving of winning the whole thing for the second time in three years. I gave my thoughts on the Jeff Jarrett angle and I know it caused a lot of anger but it didn't kill my enjoyment of the rest of the show. This is a show worth going out of your way to see and it was a worthy conclusion to possibly the best tournament in wrestling history. NJPW did the impossible, they topped last year and they deserve to be applauded for the quality of matches and shows we got to enjoy in that two week period.
