Update on Why WWE is Targeting Lesnar vs. Goldberg For Survivor Series & Who Lesnar Will Face At WrestleMania

October 6, 2016 | Posted by Larry Csonka

– While Bill Goldberg’s ESPN SportsCenter interview didn’t make an announcement of an official return, The Wrestling Observer Newsletter insists that the previously rumored Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg match will take place at the Survivor Series PPV. Vince McMahon has had the match scheduled but has not been very excited about it. Dave Meltzer notes that it is one of those situations where Vince didn’t create the character, and while Goldberg did work for WWE, Vince doesn’t “get” Goldberg.

People have wondered why the match is not happening at WrestleMania. The reason for that is because WWE wants to do the match to help promote the WWE 2K17 video game and Survivor Series is the best option for that. Also with declining ratings, the feeling is that Goldberg could provide a boost in interest.

Lesnar’s WrestleMania opponent is said to be locked up, and word is that Lesnar will face Shane McMahon at WrestleMania. WWE didn’t want to change the WrestleMania plans for the Goldberg match. At this time, the Lesnar vs. Goldberg Survivor Series match is said to be a one off match.
