Jose Aldo’s Coach Says UFC Won’t Let Him Go

November 2, 2016 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

Jose Aldo’s coach says that his client isn’t being allowed to leave MMA. Andre Pederneiras spoke with Combate (via MMAjunkie) and said that Aldo will go back to fighting for the UFC because they aren’t being given a choice.

“Aldo wants to do the other things, but in the conversations we had (with the UFC), it became clear that they’re not going to let him do that,” Pederneiras said. “There’s nothing we can do. We have to fight.”

Also has said that he doesn’t want to fight for the UFC anymore after he was passed over for a fight with Conor McGregor so McGregor could challenge Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight title. Aldo considered it one broken promise too many and said he was done, but it doesn’t look like that will be the case after all.

Pederneiras said they will wait to see what happens when Anthony Pettis faces Max Holloway at UFC 206, as well as McGregor’s next move after his fight with Alvarez.

“I don’t know what Conor’s decision will be, but I think between February and March will be a good date,” Pederneiras said. “…If he goes back to fight, he will only fight to unify the title, independent of who it’s against. Aldo will accept no other fight unless it’s to unify the title.”
