Sony Developing Kraven the Hunter Film For Spider-Universe

Sony Pictures is developing a film focusing on Kraven the Hunter as part of their Spider-Universe franchise. Collider reports that the studio has tapped Richard Wenk (The Equalizer 2) to script the film, which will focus on the popular and dangerous Spider-Man foe.

The film will be part of the Sony universe of spin-offs based on the Spider-Man characters that they own the rights to, which kicks off with Venom on October 5th. Also in development is Silver & Black, centered on Silver Sable and Black Cat. That film had a February 8th, 2019 release date but was pulled from that date earlier this summer.

Kraven the Hunter, real name Sergei Nikolaevich Kravinoff, was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. First appearing in 1964’s The Amazing Spider-Man #15, Kraven is a Russian immigrant and a member of the Kravinoff family, who is one of the supreme big game hunters in the Marvel universe. He has regularly made a habit of trying to hunt Spider-Man and other superheroes; in fact, in the current Marvel continuity he is hunting an elder version of Wolverine in the Savage Land in the pages of Old Man Logan. His half-brother Dmitri Smerdyakov is the villainous Chameleon.
