ABC Gives Full Season Order to The Rookie
Nathan Fillion has at least a full year on the police force. ABC has given a full season order to Fillion’s new series The Rookie per TV Line, ordering seven additional episodes to bring the first season to twenty episodes.
It should be noted that this is not a renewal. The Rookie is performing solidly (particularly compared to last season’s Kevin (Probably) Saves the World in the same time slot), but ABC will want to see how it continues to perform. That said, a full-season order is a vote of confidence in the show’s chances.
Starting over isn’t easy, especially for small-town guy John Nolan who, after a life-altering incident, is pursuing his dream of being an LAPD officer. As the force’s oldest rookie, he’s met with skepticism from some higher-ups who see him as just a walking midlife crisis. If he can’t keep up with the young cops and the criminals, he’ll be risking lives including his own. But if he can use his life experience, determination and sense of humor to give him an edge, he may just become a success in this new chapter of his life.
