Three Members Of Injustice Society Cast In Stargirl
Deadline reports that three members of the Injustice Society in DC Universe’s Stargirl series have been cast, with Joy Osmanski as Tigress, Neil Hopkins as Sportsmaster and Nelson Lee as Dragon King. The Injustice Society was created in 1947 and was the criminal’s answer to the Justice Society of America. Stargirl premieres next year.
Tigress was also created in 1947, although she was called Huntress at the time. She was a villain of Wildcat and inspired Catwoman. The official description reads: “Protecting and providing for her family, Paula Brooks hunts the world’s most dangerous game – humans – as the Tigress.”
Sportsmaster’s real name is Lawrence “Crusher” Crock. He first appeared in DC’s All-American Comics in 1947. He uses athletic gear as weapons, including exploding hockey pucks, rocket-launched baseball bats and more. HE later gets married to Tigress. Here’s an official description: He sees his criminal pursuits as a game to win — and his competitors as targets to kill. The only thing more important to Crock than ‘the game’ is his family.”
Finally, Dragon King debut in DC’s All-Star Squadron in 1981. He’s a former high-ranking scientist and occult expert in Imperial Japan who experimented on himself after World War II. He’s described as “a deadly and mysterious hooded man…this controversial scientist has been experimenting on himself and his victims since the 1940s.”
Greg Berlanti, Geoff Johns, Sarah Schechter and Melissa Carter will executive produce. The series is produced by Berlanti Productions and Mad Ghost Productions in association with Warner Bros Television. The series stars Brec Bassinger in the title role. Johns is also the showrunner and will write the first episode. He created Stargirl in 1999, inspired by his sister that died in a 1996 plane explosion.
Here’s a synopsis: Stargirl follows high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore as she inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past. This new drama reimagines Stargirl and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in an unpredictable series.
