Bad Boys For Life is turning into a massive hit at the box office, which is good for Sony who are already developing a fourth film. THR reports that Sony has tapped Chris Bremner, who worked on the script for Bad Boys For Life to write a fourth film.

Development on the fourth film had already begun before this weekend, but the decision is proving to be a prescient one financially as Bad Boys For Life is overperforming in a very big way. The film was expected to gross around $40 million through the four-day weekend, but is racing toward a $22 million Friday (including $6.36 million in Thursday night previews) and is now projected to bring in $63 million or more for the four-day weekend. That’s big money for a franchise that had been dormant for 17 years, and bucks the trend of recent films like The Grudge and Men in Black International which tried to revive long-dormant franchises and failed to various degrees.

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are expected to return for the fourth film, and the plan is to produce this one much quicker than the delay between Bad Boys II and Bad Boys For Life.
