Jon Snow may know nothing, but he might still know more at some point. The Hollywood Reporter reveals that HBO has begun development on the first planned sequel series to the global, smash-hit television, Game of Thrones, starring previous show protagonist Jon Snow. The planned live-action series would continue after the end of the original show and would follow Kit Harington’s Jon Snow of the Stark Clan.

The Jon Snow spinoff is said to be in early development. Harington is reportedly attached to reprise the role he portrayed in all eight seasons of the original hit TV show.

In the final season, Jon Snow discovered the truth of his lineage, that he was actually Aegon Targaryen and a possible heir to the Iron Throne. However, in the series finale, Jon Snow was sentenced into exile from Westeros and traveled with his Wildling friends North of the Wall.

Since wrapping up Game of Thrones Season 8 in 2019, Harington made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in 2021’s The Eternals as Dane Whitman, the alter-ego of Black Knight in the Marvel comics. He also recently performed in the title role of Henry V in a live production at the National Theater.

THR noted that the new show’s development appears to signal a similar strategy as Disney+’s original sequel series for the MCU, such as WandaVision, Hawkeye, and Loki. There are now reportedly seven Game of Thrones spinoff projects in the works, as well as House of the Dragon, which debuts on HBO later this August.

Other Thrones TV spinoffs in varying stages of development include 10,000 Ships with showrunner Amanda Segel, 9 Voyages with showrunner Bruno Heller, and Dunk and Egg under showrunner Steve Conrad. Three animated sequel projects are also reportedly in the works, which include The Golden Empire, set in the land of Yi Ti.

HBO and Harington had no comment on the Game of Thrones Jon Snow sequel spinoff news. House of the Dragon debuts on HBO on August 21. The show will focus on the civil war in House Targaryen, set 200 years before the events of the original series.
