A new report clarifies the news about WWE using AI in its creative process. The Wrestling Observer reported Friday that WWE brought new Senior Director of Creative Strategy Cyrus Kowsari in to spearhead WWE’s move into AI-based storytelling. Fightful Select reports that according to sources, AI is not replacing the creative team.

The report says that there have been AI tools at creative’s disposal for years, but the team mostly used it as a creative assistant for research. The example given was finding when two wrestlers last competed against each other. One source noted that the process is more along the lines of just not starting from a blank slate than writing the show. Sources in creative didn’t know of anyone using the system provided for more than a few minutes.

As regard to Kowsari, creative believes that he has been brought in to help find ways using AI to remove background noise from shots and quickly organize files — basically working on production elements, not storytelling. A production team member said that they’re excited about this, noting the “insane, nonstop” hours they work.

The report notes that Creative writes the shows and produces it directly with talent. On top talent took exception to the notion that AI storylines were on the way. They noted, “Michael Hayes, Paul Heyman and Ed Koskey are not AI,”
