Mercedes Mone had a dominant year in 2025, and she recently reflected on the year including her #1 PWI Women’s 250 ranking and more. Mone’s year included becoming a belt collector with over a dozen titles, as well as hitting the top spot on the PWI yearly list.
The AEW star commented on the honor in her latest Mone Mag newsletter. She also wrote about the matches that defined her year. You can check out the excerpts below:
PWI #1: The Year of Moné
“After countless years of being the absolute best, I finally received the recognition—PWI #1 Wrestler of the Year.”
“To earn that honor in 2025 means everything to me, especially with the depth, talent, and hunger of women in professional wrestling today. This is the most competitive era women’s wrestling has ever seen, and I don’t take that lightly. I had the opportunity this year to step into the ring with so many women I hadn’t crossed paths with before—and every single one brought fire, drive, and something unique that pushed me to be better.”
“One of my favorite discoveries was Aliss Link from Denmark. Her style is unlike anything I’ve experienced—creative, sharp, and unpredictable. One of my favorite independent matches of the year came against her, and trust me when I say: Aliss Link is someone you need to keep your eyes on.”
“Kanji from the UK, wrestling for RevPro, twisted me into shapes I didn’t even know my body could bend into. She proudly calls herself the female Zack Sabre Jr., and for good reason. Wrestling her felt like a high-level chess match—one I can’t wait to play again.”
“Then there’s Emersyn Jayne from Scotland. Don’t let appearances fool you. Her intensity, agility, and ferocity were unreal. She represented her country with pride, holding the Discovery Pro Championship for over 1,000 days. But as the CEO of women’s wrestling, I study my opponents like no other— and I always find a way to win.”
Matches That Defined My Year
“One of my favorite matches of 2025 was Mercedes Moné vs. Toni Storm at All In: Texas. From the gear to the entrance to the sheer spectacle—it was one of the greatest moments of my career. Standing across the ring from Toni, who radiates charisma, chaos, and light, made the entire experience electric.”
“Mercedes Moné vs. Athena in Boston was another standout. Opening AEW Summer Breakthrough against someone I’d wanted to wrestle for a long time was incredibly special. We brought out the best in each other—but that was only a preview of what we’re capable of together. I can’t wait to run it back.”
“My trilogy with Kris Statlander, capped off at Full Gear, is something I’ll always be proud of. If you ask me which match was my favorite, I honestly couldn’t tell you—so I’ll just say this: watch them in this order—3, 1, 2. Kris survived the Moné Train and gave me some of the best matches of my career.”
