Jon Moxley emerged victorious over Josh Alexander in the AEW Continental Championship Eliminator at tonight’s Dynamite: New Year’s Bash.

The Death Riders leader took on Alexander in a high-stakes Eliminator match tonight. Had Alexander won or survived the 20-minute time limit, he would have earned a future title match against the newly crowned AEW Continental Champion.

Alexander tried his best but was ultimately taken down by Moxley. The closing moments of the highly competitive match saw Jon Moxley explode out of a corner with a Lariat before Alexander fought back by locking in the Figure Four submission move on the former AEW World Champion. After being unable to pick up the victory with that, Josh hit a diving knee drop on Moxley’s injured leg.

Moxley locked in the Bulldog Choke, but Alexander managed to fight out of it. He ultimately put in the Sleeper Hold, forcing his opponent to tap out. Following the match, Shelton Benjamin came out alongside MVP, seemingly setting his sights on the Continental Champion. Moxley stared at them briefly before hobbling his way back from the crowd area.

Jon Moxley won the AEW Continental Championship this past weekend at Worlds End, defeating Kazuchika Okada in the final of the Continental Classic.
