It’s been the worst week imaginable for WWE referee Daphanie LaShaunn. A housefire killed her grandparents, uncle, cousin, and detsroyed the house as well. It’s a nightmare scenario The kindness of coworkers, however, is coming through.
LaShaunn’s GoFundMe has a goal of $160,000. As of this writing, it’s over $114,000, with tens of thousands donated by the likes of Kevin Owens, Alexa Bliss, Bruce Prichard, Liv Morgan, Lana and more. That’s a lot in three days, but there’s plenty more time to give.
LaShaunn, real name Aja Smith, posted more details on her Instagram (via Wrestling Inc), where messages of support from her peers are piling up.
The Brazilian-born Smith made history as the first full-time Black female referee in WWE and as the first Black female referee to officiate at WrestleMania. Though she was a wrestler when she attended a WWE tryout, she came out an official. Now that life has given her an extremely tough call, it’s nice to see people who have been inspired by her giving back.
