Tony Khan Says Hangman Adam Page’s AEW Championship Stipulation was a Gentleman’s Agreement

AEW Revolution took place last night in Los Angeles, and it may have been the last time that fans of Hangman Adam Page see him challenge for the AEW Men’s World Championship. Page lost to MJF in a brutal Texas Death Match that saw both men go to any lengths necessary to call themselves champion. MJF continues on as Champion while Hangman Adam Page will have to look for other things to do.

This isn’t the first time a major AEW babyface was shut out from challenging for the Men’s World Championship. Cody Rhodes famously lost to Chris Jericho at Full Gear 2019 in a match that prevented him from challenging for the World Championship for the rest of his tenure in AEW. It was a stipulation that generated a mixed reaction from fans during Cody’s time with the company. Tony Khan was asked how strict the stipulation was during the post-show media scrum, here’s what he had to say:

“They (Page & Cody) both came to me and said, “I want to put this at stake.” And both of them, I told them, “That sounds f****** nuts, dude.” And both of them really wanted to do it. And in both cases I said are you sure and they both said yeah, so it is an agreement we made, second time it’s happened, I like he’s somebody that uh is known for being a man of his word and we made a verbal agreement so it’s a verbal contract.”

AEW returns to the air this Wednesday night with Dynamite on TBS, perhaps we’ll hear more about the future of Hangman Adam Page then.
