Asuka’s WWE Future Reportedly Remains Uncertain
Asuka may be stepping away from WWE for an extended period following an emotional segment on WWE RAW that left fans questioning her future.
The speculation intensified after RAW went off the air following Asuka’s loss at WWE Backlash 2026. In one of the show’s most talked-about moments, Asuka shared an emotional backstage hug with IYO SKY that carried the feeling of a farewell.
According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, sources within WWE described her “semi-retiring” as tied to “family-related business” in Japan. The report noted that there is currently no confirmed timeline for when, or if, Asuka returns, and if she does, if her role will remain the same.
The report stated that while nobody explicitly called it a goodbye backstage, people got the impression that it was a farewell.
During the segment, Asuka told SKY that she was happy she could “fill her spot,” a line that caused even more discussion online after the show ended.
At this stage, WWE has not officially announced a retirement, release, or permanent departure for Asuka. Reports also indicate there is no current clarity regarding whether she could eventually return in a reduced role or resume a full-time schedule later.
