AEW Star Appears To Take Subtle Shot At CM Punk Following WWE Title Victory

MJF appeared to react to CM Punk’s Undisputed WWE Championship victory with a social media post that quickly became a talking point among wrestling fans.

Shortly after CM Punk captured the title on Monday Night RAW, the AEW World Champion shared an image on his Instagram Story of Hulk Hogan celebrating his WWE Championship victory at WrestleMania IX. The post was deleted not long afterward, but screenshots spread across X within minutes.

Although MJF didn’t include a caption or mention Punk by name, many fans connected the timing of the post to Punk’s latest WWE title win. The Hogan image carries plenty of history among wrestling fans.

At WrestleMania IX, Bret Hart lost the WWE Championship to Yokozuna before Hogan immediately challenged the new champion and won the title moments later. The finish remains one of WWE’s most discussed championship changes and is often referenced whenever fans debate controversial or unexpected title victories.

That history is why MJF’s post drew so much attention. The timing came just after CM Punk returned to WWE television and entered the Undisputed WWE Championship picture.

The title match had originally been announced for Cody Rhodes and Sami Zayn. However, Punk was added to the bout following his return, changing the championship match before Night of Champions.

Given MJF and CM Punk’s history, the deleted post didn’t go unnoticed. The two were involved in one of AEW’s biggest rivalries, a feud that spanned multiple major events and is still regarded by many as one of the company’s defining storylines.
