It took everything he had, but Kyle Fletcher was able to retain his title against Mike Bailey at AEW Grand Slam Mexico. Wednesday night’s special episode of Dynamite featured Bailey challenging Fletcher for the championship in a rubber match between the two.

Fletcher threw everything he had at Bailey, but the challenger kept kicking out and countering with his own big move. Bailey nearly won during the final moments after hitting an Ultima Weapon and covering for the nearest of nearfalls, but Fletcher was able to kick out and recover, catching a spinning kick attempt and throwing Bailey into the middle turnbuckle. He took Bailey up for a corner Brainbuster for the pinfall at just under 17 minutes.

You can see clips from the AEW Grand Slam Mexico match below. As Fletcher was celebrating, Kazuchika Okada’s music hit and he came down for his trios match, staring at Fletcher on his way to the ring.

Fletcher has been AEW International Champion for 29 days. He defeated Konosuke Takeshita for the championship at Dynamite: Beach Break.
