Special Announcement

I know the preview was for the top eight Money in the Bank openers. But things have changed, and this is a topic I have wanted to cover (pun intended) for a while. What’s changing? You ask. Well, my day job has added a metric crap ton of new responsibilities to my position. And that, coupled with my mental health not being great, means I need to take a break for a while.

For full disclosure, and because I believe in talking about mental health, I have OSDD Type 1B. For those of you who don’t know what that is, it’s a type of Dissociative Identity Disorder. Thankfully, OSDD Type 1B doesn’t have the memory gaps that full-blown DID does, but it can still be a challenge to navigate at times. And couple that with chronic depression and anxiety, it can just be a lot sometimes.

I’ve been managing as best I can over the past few months, and thankfully, I have a wonderful support system around me. But with the stuff at work adding to everything else, I just need time to take care of myself. I also want to urge anyone who is struggling to look into local therapy resources and to rely on their support system. And if you don’t have a support system, your girl is sending positive vibes out there for you and hit me up in the comments anytime.

I’ll still be doing the preview columns for the WWE, NXT, and AAA PLEs, and you’ll see me in the comment section from time to time!

The Intro Proper

Now, with the unpleasant stuff out of the way, let’s talk about today’s column! Way back in 2000, the WWE released WWF Aggression, an album of hip-hop and rap artists covering WWF themes. They followed that up with Forceable Entry, which focused on heavy metal and hard rock bands. And then Wreckless Intent in 2006, which included several different genres of music.

Earlier this year, I discovered Shepherds Reign and immediately wanted them to make a theme for Jacob Fatu. The Polynesian/Samoan heavy metal band just had a great sound that I think would fit so well with Fatu’s All Gas, No Brakes mentality. And with that, the idea of this list was born! The difference with this list is that the bands would be creating new themes. I mean, there can’t be many people clamoring for a cover of most of the Def Rebel themes. So, why not let artists make whole new themes?

And the best part of making this list? I love music and wrestling, and this helps me tie the two together. I also got to discover some new bands!

And with this being the last column for a bit, and it being one for an album, no Honorable Mentions this week. It’ll be a top ten!

Plugs

I don’t use social media, but you can follow me on Spotify, where you’ll find playlists covering every decade from the 1950s to the 2000s. As well as several genre-specific playlists.

Disclaimer:

This is my list; if you don’t like it or have a different list, awesome! Please share your own list and opinions in the comments section. I welcome open discourse about this wacky art we all love. It is an art form, so it is subjective; we all have our opinions on it, and all of them are valid. So, if you want to share your thoughts and opinions, don’t insult others for their opinion. There is already enough negativity in the world; let’s not add to it. And with that, on to the list!

The List

10: NiNi Music – Shinsuke Nakamura

I love NiNi Music; I first discovered her through her covers of traditional rock and metal songs, and her original stuff is just as good. This might be the only exception for a cover. Because using a shamisen to play the iconic riff for Nakamura’s music would be freaking sick. It would add a whole new layer to the theme, and with Nakamura’s new group, it could be a nice update to the theme.

And if NiNi Music wanted to make something wholly original, then it could be for whatever this new group is. And I think NiNi Music could make something that plays off Nakamura’s theme while giving it a new energy and feel.

9: Northlan – Zaria

I really want Zaria to have a better presentation. She has the makings of a great powerhouse heel in the vein of Bull Nakano. And getting a new theme would be the icing on the cake to that overhaul. Northlane is an Australian metal band, and their sound could fit the energy needed to really sell Zaria as a beast. The song in the video above is a perfect example of what I’m talking about.

It has a great intro and hook and is very memorable. If they can capture that same feel while tailoring a song for Zaria, then it could help to create the “oh shit” moment when her music hits. Fans will hear it and know someone is about to get murdered in the ring. And isn’t that everything you want from a theme?

8: Bleed from Within – Drew McIntyre

McIntyre is in desperate need of a new theme. And unless they go back to his original run theme, then Scottish band Bleed from Within would be a great choice. The whole swords being drawn sound and then meh sound of McIntyre’s current theme doesn’t really fit him at all. He needs something driving that gets the adrenaline flowing and sets him up to knock heads off.

Bleed from Within can create something both brutal and epic, with a slower intro to build anticipation, and then it will drop into the driving double kick drums as McIntyre walks out. Having McIntyre walk down the ramp to something like this would be a huge refresh when he eventually comes back from Hollywood, and I would be all for it.

7: Surf Curse – Sol Ruca

I think we can all agree that Ruca’s current theme is not the best. Especially when there are so many great surf rock bands out there. It just feels like a lame attempt at the 1950s beach rock sound. And when you are trying to sell a fun and cool babyface, that theme is just not it. Surf Curse could make a killer track that fits the surfer vibe while also sounding contemporary and cool. Which again, if you are trying to build a new top star, cool and current is what you are looking for.

Thankfully, Ruca has been able to overcome the theme through her natural charisma and in-ring talent. But a new theme would make it so much easier. Also, you could have her dad play on the track as well, and then she can have a special entrance with her dad playing her out.

6: Spiritbox – Tatum Paxley

With Paxley joining SmackDown, it’s the perfect time for a new theme. And I think Spiritbox would do a great job. Their sound seems to fit well with Paxley’s “Crazy Goth Girlfriend” vibe. (And can I say, as a goth wife. I don’t like the stereotype that all goth girls are crazy. But damn does Paxley do a great job.)

Spiritbox mixes a melodic metal vibe with some really great clean and gritty vocals. That mix works really well in selling the whole vibe that Paxley has. They can create something melodic with a solid riff to make it memorable. Give it an intro like their track Sun Killer, and you have the makings of a great theme for someone like Paxley.

5: Decessus – Stephanie Vaquer

Vaquer needs something more to really punch up her entrance. Right now, it takes me a second to recognize whose theme is playing, and that isn’t what you want. Insert Santiago, Chile’s Decessus. Their progressive death metal style could make for a kick-ass theme for Vaquer to come out to. Something that immediately catches the crowd’s attention and gets that huge pop, like Rhea Ripley’s “This is my brutality!”

A death metal growl from Ignacia Fernández to set off a driving metal track would be the perfect thing to make that happen. Ignacia’s growl is powerful and relentless, and opening the theme with it would kick-start the atmosphere in any arena.

4: Poetik – Solo Sikoa

I’ll be the first to admit that I am not a hip hop girl. I know a few artists, mainly through my wife, but it just never was my thing. But when thinking of what kind of music Sikoa should come out to, I couldn’t think of anything but hip hop. And Samoan artist Poetik was the perfect choice. Not just because I could see Sikoa in a music video for whatever track he lays down either.

Poetik blends a lot of different Polynesian styles into his sound and carries his Samoan heritage with pride. I think he could create something really cool for Sikoa. Sikoa doesn’t need a high-energy track; a laid-back sound with a good hook and beat for him to saunter to the ring is just right. It fits his more sarcastic and fun style. So, why not lean into those things that set him apart from the rest of the Bloodline and give him something chill for a theme.

3: Hanabie. – IYO SKY

IYO SKY has one of the better and more memorable themes of the current roster. But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t need a refresh. And I think that the high-energy Japanese metal of Hanabie. is a perfect fit for her. They actually could make something that matches the energy of her current theme while making something even better.

Their ability to jump from an almost cutesy style to that deep metal growl fits SKY’s energy so well. SKY can go from your silly bestie to a calculating in-ring killer at the drop of a hat. And having a theme that fits that would be amazing.

2: Ladrones – Dominik Mysterio

If anyone needs a new theme, it’s Dom and the Judgement Day as a whole. And I think Mexico’s Ladrones style (which they’ve dubbed Flow Pesado) is perfect. They mix hybrid metal with traditional Mexican music to create something wholly unique. And I think it fits Dom’s style perfectly. And like I said, have Ladrones make a new theme for Judgement Day, and it would help breathe new life into the stable.

Arriba La L’s breakdown has the makings of a great theme already; it’s memorable, driving, and if you ever turned them face, it creates a good sing-along moment. More than anyone else on this list, I want this one to actually happen. I think it would have potential to be a banger track.

1: Shepherds Reign – Jacob Fatu

And the group that inspired this entire list. Shepherds Reign is a Samoan metal band that leans heavily into their heritage. And while Fatu does lean more into the hip hop aesthetic. I think Shepherds Reign would be able to create something that has a similar vibe to his current theme while elevating it to new heights. It would have a much deeper connection to Fatu’s culture and would absolutely give the “someone is about to die” energy someone like Fatu needs.

Samoa Mo Samoa is the song I’d actually use as the basis for the new theme. It’s got a driving beat; Fatu can still do his werewolf entrance with the fire balls going off to the beat. The whole visual and audio package would kick so much ass. Especially at SummerSlam or WrestleMania, where the band could play him out in full traditional Samoan style. Let’s make it happen, WWE!

A Farewell for Now

I want to give a huge thank you to Jeremy and Ashish for giving me a chance to start writing previews last year. And from there, giving me a platform to talk about this crazy art form we all love. Wrestling has been one of my biggest passions for my entire life, and it’s been such a pleasure to get to talk to you all about it. Thank you to all of you as well; I have appreciated most of your comments and the discussions we have had over the last year.

And as I said, you’ll still see me pop in with the previews and in the comments. And this isn’t goodbye; it’s a see you later for the Great Eight and my weekly opinion piece.
