Dominik Mysterio says his Mexican heritage and lucha libre are central to his identity. Additionally, he noted Eddie Guerrero remains his biggest influence in wrestling.
Mysterio’s connection to Guerrero goes back much further than his current WWE character. The late star was closely involved in Dominik’s childhood during the famous custody storyline involving his real-life father, Rey Mysterio, and Guerrero. Dominik was eight years old at the time.
Speaking to GameFace&RingTakes about his biggest wrestling influence, Mysterio discussed Guerrero and his connection to lucha libre while explaining how his Mexican and Latino background shapes his style.
“My biggest influence in the wrestling industry. Um, well, I like to represent my culture of Lucha Libé, coming from a Hispanic background, you know, Latino. So, I do as much as I can to be able to represent, you know, my Mexican culture. You know, being the AAA Mega Champion, I got some lucha legends added on me. My gear represents, you know, a lot of meaningful history with Lucha Libé. So, if I don’t think I could pick one person, but if I had to, probably Eddie Guerrero for sure.”
Dominik Mysterio has previously pointed to Guerrero’s “lie, cheat, and steal” approach as an influence on his heel character. Elements of Guerrero’s character work and relationships have also found their way into Mysterio’s on-screen presentation.
