John “Bradshaw” Layfield says he doesn’t take credit for the success of John Cena, even though he was the one Cena beat for his first WWE Championship. On the latest episode of Something to Wrestle, a listener asked JBL how proud he was to be the Iron Sheik to Cena’s Hulk Hogan, and he also praised the late Umaga’s matches with Cena. You can check out his comments below:
On Being Called the Iron Sheik To John Cena’s Hulk Hogan:
“That is a good question, and that’s quite the compliment. The Sheik was awesome, and so was Hogan. So was Cena. And if that’s the case, I appreciate somebody saying that. I don’t know if it is or not. Good lord, I never take any credit for anything John Cena ever did, because Cena was going to be Cena no matter what. I just happened to be the guy that was there, and I was glad I was, because it was cool. I think John’s a good guy, and I’m really happy that I happened to be the one that gave him the first championship. He earned it, so I think it’s terrific for somebody to say something like that.”
On Umaga’s Matches With Cena:
“He had one of the best matches I’ve ever seen, him and Cena. What a worker that guy was, man. He was world class.”
