Critical Role to Launch Campaign 3 In October, Premiere to Simulcast in Theaters
The highly-anticipated third campaign of Critical Role is officially set to launch next month, and the premiere episode will be simulcast in theaters. Critical Role announced today that the third installment of their flagship Dungeons & Dragons livestream will launch on October 21st at 7 PM Pacific. The campaign’s first episode will livestream on Twitch and YouTube, the show’s usual distribution channels, but will also find larger distribution as Critical Role has partnered with Cinemark Theatres to simulcast the premiere episode of Campaign 3 in 20 cities nationwide.
The new campaign follows in the footsteps of their two previous incredibly successful campaigns, played under D&D Fifth Edition rules and run by Matt Mercer as Dungeon Master. Cast members Ashley Johnson (The Last of Us), Marisha Ray (Final Fantasy XV), Taliesin Jaffe (Final Fantasy XIV), Travis Willingham (Marvel’s Avengers), Sam Riegel (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Laura Bailey (The Last of Us: Part II), and Liam O’Brien (Star Wars: The Bad Batch) will be back, and the announcement teased “some new faces throughout campaign three.” Previous guest appearances have included the likes of Felicia Day, Will Friedle, Mica Burton, Wil Wheaton, Deborah Ann Woll, Khary Payton, Sumalee Montano, Joe Mangianello, and others.
Critical Role is set in Mercer’s setting of Exandria, which became an official D&D setting early last year. The first campaign was set on the continent of Tal’Dorei and followed a group of adventurers named Vox Machina through an epic storyline, while the second was set years after the first on the continent of Wildemount where the party known as the Meighty Nein formed and began their journey. Following the conclusion of campaign two in June, the company aired their first miniseries run by a guest DM in Aabria Iyengar, “Exandria Unlimited,” which was set on Tal’Dorei.
Campaign three will be set after the events of Exandra Unlimited as well as the events of campaign two, and will begin on the continent of Marquet. Marquet was briefly visited in the first campaign when the party traveled there to find a magical item of great power in hopes of using it against a cabal of dragons.
Beginning October 21, Campaign 3 will air Thursday evenings at 7 PM PT on Critical Role’s Twitch and YouTube channels, with the VOD made available immediately for Twitch channel subscribers and Critical Role’s YouTube channel at 12 PM PT the following Monday. The show will also be available in podcast format one week after its initial airing on the Critical Role podcast feed, which is available via Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Google Podcasts.
