Note On Why WWE Is Giving SummerSlam a Higher Push Than Usual

Next month’s WWE SummerSlam is receiving a significantly higher push than usual, and there’s a big reason for that according to a new report. WWE is building up this year’s big summer PPV in an expanded format, not only in terms of it being a two-day event but as a major show with high profile matches that would normally be saved for WrestleMania.
According to TRNBCKL Gold, the company’s decision to promote SummerSlam in this way has to do with next year’s WrestleMania. As announced in September, next year’s WrestleMania will emanate from Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. That means, obviously, that the US will not have the usual big April PPV.
As such, WWE is setting SummerSlam up as the major US PLE of the year, and the internal expectation is that by the show will have some of the bigger match-ups and story conclusions that would usually be held off. Specifically, it was noted that the Cody Rhodes vs. CM Punk storyline was originally set for WrestleMania 43 but instead is being played out for SummerSlam.
There are no details as of yet on how WWE will handle the format, lineup or preceding week activities for WrestleMania 43 in Saudi Arabia.
WWE SummerSlam takes place on August 1st and 2nd in Minneapolis, Minnesota from US Bank Stadium. The announced card thus far is:
* Women’s World Championship Match: Liv Morgan vs. IYO SKY.
* Hell in a Cell Match: Oba Femi vs. Brock Lesnar.
* World Heavyweight Championship Match: Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins.
* WWE Intercontinental Championship Match: Penta vs. TBA.
