Amanda Nunes vs. Julianna Peña Bantamweight Title Fight in the Works for UFC 265

ESPN reports that a UFC women’s bantamweight title fight is in the works for later this summer, with reigning champion Amanda Nunes facing Julianna Peña for the upcoming fight. UFC President Dana White informed ESPN of the pending matchup.

The fight is currently targeted for UFC 265 in August. The event does not yet have an official date or host venue or city, but it will likely land on August 7.

Currently, Amanda Nunes is riding high after back-to-back women’s featherweight title defenses over Felicia Spencer and Megan Anderson. She last defended her bantamweight title in December 2019 against Germaine de Randamie at UFC 245. She won the fight by unanimous decision. Since she won the title from Miesha Tate at UFC 200 in July 2016, she’s defended it on five occasions. She’s defended her featherweight title twice now.

Speaking to ESPN, Peña said on the matchup, “I’m excited, pumped and ready to go.” She added, This opportunity at a UFC title is what I’ve wanted in this sport all along.”

Peña won her last fight earlier in January at UFC 257, beating former title contender Sara McMann via third-round submission. Her UFC record is 6-2, while her overall MMA record is 10-4.
