Antonio Silva Is Now A Free Agent
MMA Junkie reports that Antonio Silva (19-10-1 MMA, 3-7-1 UFC) is now a free agent after a mutual decision by Silva and the UFC to not renew his contact. He competed in eleven UFC fights over a period of over four years. His last fight was a second-round KO loss to Roy Nelson at UFC Fight Night 95 in September.
Silva only has one win in his last eight fights, a second round TKO over Soa Palelei at UFC 190 in August 2015. He also suffered knockout losses to Stefan Struve, Mark Hunt, Frank Mir, Andrei Arlovski and Cain Velasquez. He also drew with Hunt at UFC fight Night 33 in December 2013, which was called a “Fight of the Year” candidate, before testing positive for banned substances and getting suspended. His UFC career wasn’t all bad, however, as he did get knockout wins over Travis Browne (UFC 156) and Alistair Overeem (UFC on FOX 5). Before that, he had a TKO win over Fedor Emelianenko in Strikeforce in February 2011.
Silva’s manager, Alex Davis, previously suggested that Silva will look at international options for future fights. He said in a previous interview: “I think ‘Bigfoot’ will probably be out of the UFC and probably go to Rizin (FF) or Russia.“
