Conor McGregor sparked speculation that he would possibly be facing Frankie Edgar soon, but Dana White shut that down quickly. McGregor took to Twitter this week to comment on a UFC tweet wishing Edgar a happy birthday, replying, “Happy Birthday Frankie, see you in December.” While Edgar said he was all for it, White quickly shot down the idea.

“Conor loves to fight and wants to fight again, but that Frankie Edgar fight isn’t going to happen,” White said (per MMA Weekly). “Edgar is two weight classes below him. Edgar is in a position; he was supposed to fight Aljamain Sterling, and Aljamain fell out, got hurt. Frankie’s coming to the end of his career and he could end up getting himself into a title position again. So to take the Conor fight makes no sense.”

White did make it clear he believes McGregor will be in the Octagon soon though, saying, “I think Conor will fight next year.”
